William Cohen opines that going to war is an "overreaction." The clown carnival plans its infamously ineffectual cruise-missile strikes on Afghanistan and the Sudan. The Sudanese are predictably irate.

The Sudanese express their anger at America by trashing their own neighborhoods. Ayman al-Zawahiri calls ABC News for a friendly chat. Massoud's Northern Alliance suffers a Taliban offensive in response to the American strikes. Massoud himself is piqued: why did the Americans ever trust the perfidious Pakistanis whose forewarning saved bin Laden? Thank God we've learned that lesson. George Tenet, Sandy Berger and Madeleine Albright exchange harsh words.

CLIP SIX

Khalid Sheikh Muhammed: champion offroader! And hideous villain, too -- the man has it all. We see an al Qaeda training camp in operation. It's like the Boy Scouts, but with automatic weapons, none of the Christian overtones, and twice the recreational sodomy. KSM reveals he has a secret plan in mind. He calls it "The Planes Operation." It involves....planes. As dusk falls, the jihadis machine-gun a projection screen upon which Clinton's visage is speaking, thereby eliminating the sole source of entertainment in Waziristan, and disrespecting their own MVP. KSM and al-Zawahiri exchange tender words. Much desert scenery and ululating ensues.

恐怖分子与李敖

李敖在今天凤凰卫视栏目”李敖有话说”中,为恐怖袭击提供了辩护的理由:

第一,恐怖袭击”延及无辜”,是战争中”不得已”的事情;

第二,美国在历史上贩运黑奴,越战中杀害妇女儿童,至今伊拉克平均每天死亡700人,也是恐怖主义,阿拉伯人也可以其人之道还治其身;

第三,伊斯兰教徒发动的自杀性袭击,在宗教和道德上是神圣而极其崇高的.

先看第一个理由.

恐怖袭击是”不得已地延及无辜”,还是直接而故意地杀害平民?现代战争法规定,不管战争的最终打击的目标是什么,

不管这些平民是否支持作战的对方,战争都不得以平民作为攻击对象,即使是误伤或误杀平民也应该极力避免,.从这个意义上说,

”不得已地延及无辜”是可以原谅的,看来李敖也不敢公然反对这一条文明底线.那么,911袭击和今年伦敦爆炸案,是”不得已地延及无辜”

,还是直接而故意地杀害平民,不管袭击或爆炸的最终目的是打击美国或英国政府?如果是前者,这两次袭击的对象应该是军营\哨所或政府大楼等军事目标或至少是准军事目标,怎么会去撞击纽约双子大厦这种明显的民用建筑,怎么会去在伦敦大街上搞爆炸?这还不是直接而故意地杀害平民吗?

再看第二个理由.

首先,美国历史上使用非人道的手段贩运黑奴,是美国政府的行为,还是当时黑奴贩子的做法?即使美国政府曾经容忍这种做法,但美国政府发动的南北战争不正是废奴运动吗?越战中确实有越南百姓被杀,但越南全民皆兵的做法,中国军队也是深切知道的;况且,美军曾为士兵枪杀越南百姓召开军事法庭,尽管那些被杀的越南”百姓”其实是不穿军装的战斗人员.伊拉克平均每天死亡700人,这是李敖说的,我没有看见他提供数据来源,暂且就相信他一回.那么这700人中,有多少是战斗人员,有多少是平民?另外,更重要的是,这700人的平民有多少是美英联军直接故意杀害的,有多少是恐怖袭击分子直接故意杀害的?更有甚者,又有多少平民是被恐怖袭击分子拉来做挡箭牌和人质之后才被杀掉的?李敖不做区分,统统把帐算到美英联军的头上,这也是公正的?

其次,退一万步说,即使我们象李敖那样确定美国和英国也大搞恐怖主义,美国政府而不是世界各地的奴隶贩子在历史上以非人道方式贩运黑奴,美军在越南战争中屠杀平民,美英联军在伊拉克每天杀害700无辜伊拉克人,等等,假设这些都是真的,难道就能证明美英的对手-----伊斯兰恐怖袭击分子这样做,也象李敖所说的,是正义的,高尚的,神圣的?李敖应该明白,任何人犯罪都是犯罪,而不管罪犯是否分立成对立的双方.比如,黑社会甲乙两方在大街上火拼,我们不能因为甲方杀了人,就可以允许甚至支持乙方去杀人,何况还是杀害大街上的行人,尽管这些行人中也有同情黑社会某一方的.

最后看第三个理由.以自杀的方式去打击敌对一方,不管是否是为了得到天堂中少个处女新娘,如果打击的目标是军事目标甚至是政府大楼或政府高官等准军事目标,那都是令人钦佩的;相信幻想中的处女新娘胜过相信现实的生命,毕竟不是我们这些非伊斯兰信徒所能理解的.但是,这种袭击恰恰不敢对准军事目标,连准军事的目标也不是,

恰恰对准的是非军事的目标-----大街上的普通行人,大楼里的上班族或商人,

超市中的顾客,

巴士里的乘客,宾馆里的房客和服务人员-------那些无能防备\无能滋味\无能反击的普通男女老幼.这难道不是怯懦,还反而是勇敢?

使用烈性炸药,去攻击手无寸铁的妇女儿童,难道还是高尚的?难道还是崇高的?难道还是神圣的?与手无寸铁的妇女儿童相比,到底谁是弱者?与手无寸铁的妇女儿童相比,

使用烈性炸药暗中进行攻击的人还是弱者?

恐怖袭击的直接目标是平民,因为恐怖袭击分子知道,袭击平民就是对美英为代表的自由民主政治制度的最好的打击.民主政府听命于民众,如果成功地恐吓了民众,也就是控制了民主政府,最终导致民众抛弃民主政府,无奈地接受恐怖袭击分子心中的伊斯兰原教旨主义神权政治,以此毁灭现代文明价值,重回中世纪!

是的,被恐怖袭击的平民中,有支持他们政府政策的,甚至大多数是支持政府政策的,但是,平民一项政策,甚至是一项错误的政策,支持一个错误的甚至是罪恶的政府,就统统被烈性炸药炸得血肉横飞?十年文革中,多少红卫兵,多少老百姓,多少知识分子,多少政府官员无限拥护文化大革命啊?纳粹德国又有多少德国青少年,多少知识分子(甚至包括海德格尔),多少中产阶级热爱希特勒啊?难道他们全该被统统屠杀?!就说现在吧,我们现在支持或拥护的政策或政府就一定是正确的?如果有人认为我们错了,我们就应该统统被对方炸得身首分离?

况且被炸的平民中可能还有反对者?!

那么,可能李敖会说,与美英政府和美英军队相比,那些恐怖袭击者还是弱者啊!他们无法正常或实现自己的意愿,没有其他办法,只有选择这种袭击平民的方式了.”弱者有权选择武器”

,李敖这样告诉我们.

难道真的没有其他选择了吗?伊斯兰世界有反对美国英国的政府难道还少吗?如果恐怖袭击者认为,他们的政府反对美英的强度还不够,他们难道不能选举一个反对美国英国强度足够的政府?如果他们不能作到,这不过是表明要么他们的政府不够民主,要么表明他们的意愿不能代表广大伊斯兰人民.如果是前者,他们应该做的是如何促进本国政府的民主化进程,如果是后者,就说明广大伊斯兰人民还不是那么厌恶美国和英国,那些以伊斯兰人民的名义发动的恐怖袭击,是对伊斯兰人民意志的粗暴奸污!

可能李敖还会说,恐怖袭击分子在伊斯兰世界确实只是少数,所以他们不但在国际上无法正常实现自己的意愿,在国内也办不到,但是,他们还是不能放弃自己反对美国英国的伟大理想,他们无法借助本国政府的力量来实现,只有依靠自己袭击平民的方式了.那么,我请问,每个人的意愿有应该得到实现吗?

先不说罪犯的意愿不应该实现,就是普通人的每一个意愿,无论他本人认为如何重要和高尚,都应该和必然得到实现吗?比如说,某人认为,地球上灾难的来源是月球,所以他建议国家把月球炸掉,但是政府和广大民众不支持,难道他就有权到街上滥杀那些喜爱月亮的民众吗?

李敖曾经为台湾的自由民主奔走呼喊,甚至身陷囹圄,这都是令人尊敬的,历史也将记住他的功绩.可是,台湾自由民主初步实现的今天,李敖却走到了为极权专制独裁辩解,高喊毛主席,称自己的中央在北京,为反对和攻击自由民主国家的恐怖分子呐喊助威,历史也将会记录下这一切.

李敖老了,青年时代为自由民主为献身的热血已经冷却,死灰复燃的是中国传统知识分子的家国天下大一统的顽固念想,这种情结是五四以来知识分子的陷阱,多少先知先觉者因此甘愿沦为独裁专制的民族国家机器下的螺丝钉,李敖是大一统祭坛上一个新的牺牲者.

李敖糊涂了,青年时代做反对派是争取自由民主,就以为自由民主就是做反对派,沦落为”为反对而反对”所谓的”永远的反对派”,而迷失价值和真理的绝对标准,因而无所归依,反而把民族国家的统一作为风烛残年的最高梦想了.

当年反对强大的国民党时,李敖并未因为自己是弱势的一方,而攻击或杀害台湾的普通民众----仅仅因为这一点,我敢肯定,李敖不会真心支持恐怖分子.

A Chinese company is honoring ex-president Bill Clinton by naming a new line of condoms after him - along with a companion line of condoms that will be named after his ex-girlfriend, Monica Lewinsky.

Reports Britian's Sky News: The Guangzhou Haokian Bio-science company has registered their names as trademarks for the contraceptives.

The condoms will display Chinese spellings: Kelitun and Laiwensiji.

A 12-pack of Clintons is expected to cost $5.00, with Lewinskys selling at a discounted price of just over $3.00.

The manufacturer's general manager, Liu Wenhua, told Sky News that naming his condoms for Clinton was perfectly legal, explaining that "trademarks of two foreign surnames and can't be seen as a violation of rights."

Clinton is the only U.S. president to be honored with his own condom brand line. New York Sen. Hillary Clinton was unavailable to comment on her husband's latest achievement.

我每次路过白宫都不禁想：这次可能是最后一面。把美国总统的大本营夷为平地，肯定是恐怖分子梦寐以求的事。二○○一年九月十一日以后，问题大概是何时多于会否。飓风卡特里娜摧毁新奥尔良，暴露政府应变能力大有问题，恐怖分子更跃跃欲试用大杀伤力武器袭击大城市。这真是一场离奇的反恐战争。前线美军深知敌人杀美国人无所不用其极，但美国本土的左翼自由派活像战争与我何干。

拉登未放下屠刀

「九一一」四周年前数天，我到白宫数街之遥的酒店参加由左翼自由派主办的反战会议，听亿万富豪索罗斯（George Soros）死不认输谓：「九一一以来打的反恐战争弊多于利。」他说攻打伊拉克是重大错误，错杀无辜跟恐怖分子没有两样，打仗只为提高布殊总统的民望。克林顿的次任国务卿奥尔布赖特（Madeleine Albright）附和，指伊战损害美国声誉，早日撤军方为上策。索罗斯去年大烧银纸仍阻不了布殊连任，奥尔布赖特在任时对伊拉克束手无策，败军之将有何资格教训获过半数选民授权的总统治国？四年前「九一一」我在纽约，永不忘记和饶恕曼克顿下城金融区发生的事。四年来美国再没有出现类似规模的灾难，不是拉登放下屠刀，而是美军直捣阿富汗和伊拉克乱了对方阵脚。幸亏布殊严打恐怖分子，否则世界只会更糟。我没资格投票给布殊，但我每天都庆幸他是白宫主人。

反恐是长期抗争

左翼自由派要美国早日撤军，这是投降的识见。布殊有历史眼光，深知反恐是要几代人努力的长期抗争。他说：「自由世界曾与仇恨的意识形态斗争，我们打败了法西斯主义，我们击倒过共产主义，我们也将战胜恐怖分子攻击美国的仇恨思想。」假如左翼自由派当年当道，还会出现盟军反攻登陆诺曼第的壮举吗？我痛恨左翼自由派反战，因为他们想打击布殊多于求和平。美国一旦在伊拉克败阵，只会为文明世界带来黑暗，绝对没有和平。英国作家希钦斯（Christopher Hitchens）在「九一一」后与左翼自由派决裂，他指旧战友在此重大历史时刻一塌胡涂：「左派中人如乔姆斯基（Noam Chomsky）非但没有坚决反对虚无谋杀犯，反而开始替他们辩护，公开称拉登的手法尽管过火，但总算是一种解放神学。这简直是道德和政治崩溃。」

「有责任击败他们」

希钦斯指恐怖分子为伊斯兰法西斯分子，「他们要我们永无宁日，我们也不让他们好过。我们不能与他们在同一地球共存……我不想跟心理变态者呼吸相同的空气……不是他们死就是我亡。我感到高兴，因为我知灭亡的将是他们。我们有责任击败他们，这是乐事一宗。」

反战派一心反美，有想过与战争最具关系的伊拉克人想法吗？伊拉克总统塔拉巴尼（Jalal Talabani）最近访华盛顿，我听他说：「我们都亏欠了拯救我们脱离最可怕独裁政权的美国英雄……感谢你们勇敢的军队，现在伊拉克人自由了。」对布殊有利的话，左翼自由派是听不进耳的。

9.11惨案四周年祭--冼岩的卫“恐”心声

2001 年9月11日是一个人类无法忘记的日子。美国世贸大厦遭受恐怖袭击，坍塌的双子塔，烈焰燃烧中所属60多个国家的数千生灵瞬间灰飞烟灭，惨烈画面永远定格于人类历史的记忆之中。那一刻起，世界格局从此改变，不分地域国家、种族信仰，也不管是从政治经济层面，还是从精神文化的角度，人类截然划分为恐怖主义与 “反恐”、野蛮与文明两种对抗的力量。这种角力和对抗的性质，如同当年二战时期纳粹法西斯主义同反法西斯联盟之对垒一样，关乎人类的生存安宁和平。生活在地球村的每一公民，从此都难以摆脱9.11所带来的影响。
9．11以后，世界何曾安宁。恐怖势力的绝望猖獗，继续制造印尼巴厘岛夜总会爆炸、莫斯科剧场人质事件、西班牙3．11列车爆炸、别斯兰学校人质事件、直到最近的伦敦7月地铁爆炸、埃及沙姆沙伊赫酒店爆炸事件……，更不用说巴基斯坦和中东地区的土耳其、特拉维夫、巴格达的街头，数不清的人肉炸弹袭击案例的发生。腥风血雨中，残肢断颅，骨血横飞，成百上千手无寸铁的平民百姓一次又一次惨遭屠戮的场面，通过电视传媒呈现于世界每一个人的眼前。生命脆弱，黎民何辜？伤吾伤，以及人之伤，“君子见人之厄则矜之”，一个稍有良知头脑正常的人，莫不对死伤者充满同情和伤悼之情，对恐怖势力的残暴痛恨到裂眦发指的地步！
不幸的是，国人中为数不少的另一种人，他们是被国家至上、民族主义所蛊惑，被极权主义的意识形态所绑架、精神心态扭曲的一帮革命信众，几年来，每一次恐怖袭击发生，都即刻可以在网上电视和纸媒上听到他们一系列违情悖理的声音。“拉登是讨伐十字军的英雄”、“踩平纽约”、“美帝国主义陷入人民战争的汪洋大海之中”……这类社会上随处可听见的呓语也许不足道，但反映出来的非理性疯狂情绪、嗜暴仇美的群体心理却不可小视，因为这正是某些人可利用的政治筹码和资源，也是多年革命斗争运动的基础和土壤。请看前不久国内某些报纸电视台貌似在理、佯装客观的话语：“恐怖袭击针对强权，特别是阿富汗伊拉克的参战国”、“连环爆炸提醒正视全球不公”，这类的说法充斥我们的耳目。这样一来，事情的缘由恶果被暗转偷换，恐怖袭击摇身一变，被包装成是弱者对强权的反抗，对不公不义的抗争，抹上一层似是而非的道德油彩后，拉登或扎卡维的武装分子倒成了“正义之师”了！每当我读到这样的高论，以及话语背后的逻辑指向和价值观念，都由衷的感到一阵内心恐怖和悲哀。杀人就是杀人，罪犯岂能是战士！无论什么样的政治目的、国家民族的利益、宗教信仰的价值，都必须置于人的生命权利之下。生命神圣，人是最高目的，这是绝对律令，不容侵犯的天条！滥杀无辜，夺人性命，难道还需要讨论、认证其目的有无正当性么？连提倡革命暴力的老祖宗列宁都说过“手段的卑鄙证明目的卑鄙”。有着五千年优秀文明传统的中华民族，讲仁爱修睦、礼义廉耻的中国人，从什么时候起，竟和野蛮罪恶的恐怖分子站到一边并为之辩护，置无数死伤的生灵而罔顾？
如果说恐怖行为可以用之于反抗强权、反抗不公，那更应发生在中国当下现实社会，每个中国人都知道我们所处社会的弊病有多严重的程度，难道我们能以此鼓励人肉炸弹在我们的大街上家门口制造血案吗? 阶级斗争、暴力革命的理论与实践，当今国内都不公开提倡了，难道就可以用于国际社会的政治关系中么？
为恐怖主义张目的还有一位知识分子冼岩（闲言）先生，在他的一篇《恐怖分子袭击伦敦大有道理》的文章里，说到恐怖袭击伤及无辜为人所诟病时称言道：
“本文专讲道义……但是，美英两国是民主国家，战争行为原则上需要民众授权。正是在美英两国民意的强大支持下，两国政府才悍然发动了伊拉克战争，攻打、占领了伊拉克国土，造成了大量无辜平民的伤亡。因为有这层因果，作为战争的责任人之一，美英两国的平民已非无辜，恐怖组织对他们的袭击大有道理。英美既然是民主国家，那里的民众支持政府外交政策，故而那里的平民应该付出如此代价。”
无独有偶，伦敦7.7爆炸案嫌犯穆罕默德?西迪基汗的遗言最近在半岛电视台播出，他说：“你们的民选政府继续在全世界对我的人民施暴，你们负有直接责任，正像我对保护我的穆斯林兄弟姐妹，并为他们复仇负有直接责任一样”。请比较一下两段言论，情感相通、价值无二、逻辑一致：反对一个国家的政策，就有权杀死这个国家的人民；并且有意混淆战争行为和恐怖袭击性质不同的概念关系。这是任何识字人都看得出来的，说冼岩先生与恐怖分子心相印、息相通，是其优秀发言人恐不为过吧？不仅如此，其实冼岩的言论还表达出了某些人阴暗的心声，只不过因受制于与英美等西方国家政治经济方方面面利益或关系，不能直接妄言于天下而已！
该怎样来命名这种杀无辜、杀无赦的现象和理由呢？我想了半天，想起人肉炸弹每次杀伤人数，比起当年希特勒以焚尸炉对犹太人“最后解决”的规模毕竟要小一些，那就叫它“逐步解决”吧！不知此命名是否合乎冼岩先生之尊意？
9.11 以后，距离世贸大厦被袭五个多月时间，布什总统访华到清华大学讲演，他回忆起惨案中的众多死难者时眼里满含泪水，而在场的几百师生却无人注意到这一点。而后向布什提问和对话中，说到中美外交、军事关系、台海问题等“宏大叙事”，只见有如国家发言人般的鹦鹉学舌，却不见有一个人，以个体的角度、人性的立场发表意见，或有一言半语同情、问候一下死难者的情况。这些相对单纯涉世未深年轻学子，怎么能心如铁石般寒凉？是教育和文化环境，使他们头上没有三尺神明，心中缺少慈爱悲悯，对发生在自己身边以外、他人的苦难毫无感觉才没有反应。想起前一段时间媒体报道清华大学有一精英学子刘某，用硫酸倒进动物园里的狗熊嘴里，欣赏动物挣扎痛苦的事情，这种对生命从漠视到残忍，正好为上述情形，作为一个明白的旁注。
一个没有宗教精神、缺乏信仰的民族，必然表现于道德上的冷漠自私麻木而不自知，也就不知尊重他人和自己的生命。所以当下社会，有那样多致人死命的假冒伪劣商品泛滥例子，大面积的坑蒙拐骗、抢劫强奸、杀人如草的罪案频发，除开社会经济的客观原因，在精神文化教育领域中，几十年来中国人所接受的仇恨哲学、斗争实践和训练，使国人情感意识中，恨是实在的，而爱是虚渺的。贵己贱人，持强凌弱，将暴力当成壮伟，视生命如草芥的法西斯思想的因子深植于国人的精神结构中。我们从网络上对恐怖袭击众多欢呼不绝的喧嚣声里，从冼岩之流为恐怖主义巧舌如簧的辩护说辞中，感到其中有一种否定常识常理、超乎逻辑和非理性的情绪意志，这种汹汹泛滥的意识流，很难在文明的范畴中与之进行规范的理论和对话。民国时期军事理论家蒋百理先生就认为中国人的民族性中有一种类似醉汉的“酒性”，指的就是此种状态。一旦发作起来颠倒狂乱、阵势壮大且对社会文明极具破坏性。
恐怖主义当前，人类命运与共。恐怖分子举起屠刀杀向某个人、某国人，就是对所有人的杀戮，就是对人类的犯罪。支持或反对恐怖主义，是区别人与非人的标尺，这是人类道德的底线。《圣经》上说“爱人如己”，我们珍爱自己的生命，就应珍爱别人的生命。诺贝尔和平奖获得者史怀哲说 “我的生命对我来说充满了意义，我身旁的这些生命一定也有相当重要的意义”。中国人什么时候认真做到了这些，中华民族道德文明才会真正成熟，才能够与人类现代文明接轨。
9．11惨案过去整整四周年。四年前的今天，成都市民陈守忠先生晚上9点多钟从电视上目睹火光中燃烧的世贸大厦以及纷纷坠楼遇难者的身影。陈先生胸中悲愤难抑，他的良心告诉他应该做点什么。晚上11点过，陈先生一人驾车到成都美国领事馆，送上一只花圈置于门前，表达一个普通中国人对死难者的伤悼之情。十多分钟以后，中国公安人员收缴花圈并带走陈守忠至派出所询问后放回。我认为陈先生的行为在一个不能正常表达民意的社会里有其特殊意义：第一，他代表自己，从个人立场出发。第二，他有超乎一己、超乎于国家民族之爱，他是佛教徒，有宗教慈悲的普世精神。第三，也是最重要的一点，他用人性和良知替那些为恐怖主义欢呼张目的国人洗刷了耻辱。

了解Katrina飓风真相，再骂布希也不迟

任何重大灾难或者突发事件的爆发，在最初阶段都是流通着很多不完整的报导和不实的谣传。这是新闻界的自然反应，所以想要对事情有个相对清楚的了解，需要一点耐心。等尘埃落定，再指手画脚也不晚。

本文不是为了替谁开脱，卡特娜（Katrina）飓风虽然是天灾，可巨大的人口和财产损失里，也有人祸的因素。但是把事情变成指责布希和嘲笑美国的大合唱，就错的离谱了。下面介绍一些有关卡特娜灾害的事实，可能你在主流媒体上不大会经常见到，读过之後，也许你就骂不出口，笑不出来了。

1）一般情况下，布希没有权力调用国民警卫队。

美国的国民警卫队（National Guard）是归各州州长指挥的，而不是联邦政府。这是美国的规则。美国总统可以选择直接调用国民警卫队，但那应该出於相关各州州长应付紧急灾难的请求，得到各州长的许可。布希总统没有在灾害前得到路易斯安那州长的许可，因而无法通过联邦政府机构指挥调动国民警卫队。

2）布希在飓风登陆前两天给路易斯安那州长和新奥尔良市长通电话，请求他们实行强制性撤离，但是新奥尔良市长发出的第一个撤离指令是自愿性的。

2005年8月27日星期六下午5时，新奥尔良市长纳根（Ray Nagin）对市民下达了“自愿撤离”的指令，并宣进入紧急状态。卡特娜飓风袭击新奥尔良市的时间是8月29日星期一上午8时。市民有一天半的时间撤离，但是可惜，这第一个撤离指令不是必须遵守的，而是市民自愿。次日上午（8月 28日），在接到美国风中心（NHC）主任梅费尔德（Max Mayfield）打到家的电话之後，纳根市长才下达了强制性撤离的指令。

3）路易斯安那州长和新奥尔良市长在布希总统之前得到了“美国风中心”发出的飓风警告。

8月27日星期六晚些时候，美国风中心主任梅费尔德分头给路易斯安那州长布兰克（Kathleen 布兰克）和新奥尔良市长纳根发出通报，警告他们飓风的强度和可能造成的危害。第二天（8月28日），风中心主任通过视频会议把同样的信息通报给了布希。

4）在飓风登陆当天，布希请求路易斯安那州长把国民自卫队的管理权交给联邦政府以便协调救灾，被州长布兰克拒绝。

当看到情况紧急时，布希没有等待路易斯安那州向联邦政府发出请求，而是主动建议布兰克州长把国民警卫队的指挥权交给联邦政府以便协调行动，但是不知出於什麽原因，布兰克拒绝了这个请求。很巧，路易斯安那州长布兰克是民主党，新奥尔良市长内根也是民主党。

5）布希命令联邦军队协助灾民撤离新奥尔良。

9月2日布希颁命令，调动7000名军人进入新奥尔良参与救灾协助警务。这个命令导致新奥尔良有两个并行的权力系统。因为当地政府没有交出管理权，所以理论上还是市政府掌管地方权力，负责救灾。但是他们一方面因为种种原因无力应付混乱局面，另一方面又拒绝交出管理权，使布希政府无奈出此下策。而实际上，这个决定有可能与1878年通过的一个法案（Posse Comitatus Act）相违背，那个法案规定用联邦军队维护地方警务违法。这是没有办法的办法。

值得庆的是，赫赫有名的82空降师不负众望，只用了6个小时就完成了部署，从基地到达灾区，这个奇迹是通过他们提前一天的演练和准备得以实现的（http://www.radioblogger.com/）。

6）布希政府五年来对路易斯安那州的水利拨款比过去克林顿政府只多不少。

美国负责水利建设的是“美国陆军工程兵团公司”（Army Corps of Engineers），路易斯安那州的“美国陆军工程兵团公司”得到了超过所有其他州的联邦政府拨款，过去5年布希政府共给该州拨款19亿美元，排在第二位的加利福尼亚州只得到14亿美元，而加州的人口是路易斯安那的8倍。总体来说，共和党布希政府对路易斯安那的水利拨款略微超过了之前的民主党克林顿政府。

如果说是经费不足导致水利设施不堪重负，那麽历届的政府都难辞其咎，布希政府还是其中表现比较好的。而对水利经费被挪用或浪费的报导让人怀疑问题到底是钱不够，还是决策失误以及钱被浪费滥用。

看了以上这些，如果你还是觉得事情都是布希的错，well，说明还有更多你大概还不解的事实。例如上述这些事实，主流媒体未必有很大兴趣大规模报导。可是美国佬不是喂什麽吃什麽的主儿，美国佬嘴很刁，他们自己找信息，他们也不信任主流媒体。

再看下列事实

7）新奥尔良市大部分地区是海平面或低於海平面高度。

该市海拔最高的地方仅高出海平面6英尺，而且整个城市在缓慢下降。从1830年开始，城市就限制土葬，因为担心尸体腐烂引发传染病。洪水对这一直就是严重的威胁。难怪美联社的民调资料显示（AP-Ipsos poll），54％的美国民众希望整个放弃被大水浸泡的4/5地区，搬迁到更安全的地方。

新奥尔良地处沿海，几乎每年都有各种飓风风警报，可几乎每次都没有直接袭击城市，或者是强度不大，都没有形成重大灾害，所以大家警惕性逐渐松懈，对警报不够重视和警觉。不成想这次是真的。

8）新奥尔良损失惨重的重要原因不是飓风本身，而是防波堤破裂。

飓风引起的降雨并没有导致大水滥，防波堤的崩塌是主要原因。8月29日星期一接近中午时分，十七街那里的运河的一段防波堤破裂，被飓风搅起的汹涌海水灌入低洼的新奥尔良。城市很快被淹。

9）造成致命破裂的那段防波堤，设计能力只能应付3级飓风，而卡特娜登陆时是4级。

《芝加哥论坛报》的报道这样说：

“我不认为拨款是导致卡特娜飓风灾害的一个原因”，“美国陆军工程兵团公司”主任工程师 Carl Strock将军说，“即便这个项目（维护防波堤）完工了，我的看法是，基於暴风雨的强度，商业区和法国区的洪水仍然会发生”。

为什麽防波堤只设计出这麽低的防洪能力？这要问几十年前作决定的人。

10）发生破裂的防波堤是已经完工的修复过的段落。

虽然整个维护防波堤的工程没有完工，但是出事的一段是已经完成修复的部分。事实明，无论再怎麽修理维护，防波堤从设计上就无法应付这麽大的风浪。过去没有出事，只是运气好。而确实已经有人在4年前预言，如果碰到强烈飓风直接袭击这个地区，新奥尔良就会面临今天我们看到的局面。狼真的来了。

11)新奥尔良多年以来一直不景气。

新奥尔良在2004年美国国家统计局公的最贫穷城市排名第九，平均家庭收入是31,369美元。该市近年来人口流失，最近的人口数是 485,000。这可以解释为什麽会有很多穷人没有自己的交通工具，因而需要依赖城市当局帮助撤离。而遗憾的是，当地政府没能有效的提供这一帮助。一方面，灾民受困无法离开；另一方面，数百辆校车置在停车场被洪水吞噬成为垃圾。

12）新奥尔良有很高的犯罪率，超过成为谋杀之都的华盛顿特区。

华盛顿特区得到“美国谋杀之都”（murder capital of America）的称号，是因为与之比较的是五十万人口以上的大城市，新奥尔良没有达到那个要求。而真实的数字是，新奥尔良的谋杀率比华盛顿特区高 16％，是美国平均水平的大约10倍。那本来就是个治安败坏的地方，很多街区极不安全，而长期的警力不足加剧了这个趋势。不到1/4的凶杀案最终有人被定罪，惩治不力致使大量暴力罪犯逍遥法外。所以当大水之後发生哄抢、强、袭击救援人员等等犯罪行为，应该是在意料之中的。那本不是太平之地。

自然灾害的发生，是无法完全避免的。人所能做的，就是量预防灾害，量减低灾害带来的人员和财产损失。

失去的生命已经足够让人悲痛了，假如不能诚实面对失误和偏差，那就太可惜了。如果这次我们不能从惨重的牺牲学到点什麽，下次就难免更多的亲人永别和伤心泪水。

　　【纽约记者曾慧燕五日电】目前分别在哈佛大学和哥伦比亚大学攻读博士学位的前天安门学运领袖王丹及王军涛等异议知识分子，近日在美成立中国宪政协进会。

　该会成立的第一个活动，将於10月6日在纽约法拉盛公共图书馆邀请「爱国侨团」交换对促进中国民主化进程的看法，并希望藉此改变某些「亲北京人士」对「民运人士」的印象。这将是打破目前民运僵局的重要一步。

　不过，在获邀名单上的纽约“中国和平统一促进会”会长花俊雄 5日表示，目前他还未接到对方正式邀请，王军涛只是透过中间人传话。他个人虽然愿意与不同观点的人士包括台独、民运人士接触，但他认为，「中国宪政协进会」意欲以团体名义与「爱国侨团」碰头的「可能性不大」。

　王丹指出，成立中国宪政协进会的目的，旨在通过政治活动，推动中国向宪政民主国家政体转变。他指出，宪政的关键是限制和规范国家活动范围和方式，以保障公民的独立选择空间，在宪政体制许可的范围内，异议人士的活动都能得到尊重和保障。

　王军涛说，由於北京的宣传丑化，也有些民运人士自己内斗不争气，造成部分侨界人士对民运人士印象不佳。他们希望通过双方的交流接触，增进互相了解，让对方了解民运人士并非「为反对而反对」或「逢中必反」，其实大家的出发点都是为了中国的繁荣昌盛和自由民主。(世界日报)

More than a year before the Sept. 11 attacks, a small, highly classified military-intelligence unit identified Mohamed Atta and three other future hijackers as likely members of an al-Qaeda cell operating in the United States, according to Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.) and a former defense intelligence official.

In the summer of 2000, the team, known as "Able Danger," prepared a chart that included visa photographs of the four men and recommended to the military's Special Operations Command that the information be shared with the FBI, Weldon and the former intelligence official said yesterday.

The recommendation was rejected, and the information was not shared, they said, apparently at least in part because Atta and the others were in the United States on valid entry visas.

Interesting transcript of an interview with Larry C. Johnson on PBS some years ago.
I can't find the date of this interview, but it appears to be pre-9/11, even pre-USSCole attack. The World Trade Center "bombing" (apparently the first one, in 1992) is discussed in passing, but the main focus seems to be on the Nairobi embassy bombing.

Here's a quote from Johnson in which he appears to be downplaying the threat posed by Osama:

So, we recognize that [Osama's] the threat. He's serious about wanting to kill Americans, but as long as he's in Afghanistan, as long as he doesn't have access to a cell phone, as long as he can't just hop on a plane and travel wherever he wants without fear of being arrested, his ability to plan and conduct terrorist operations is extremely limited.

Attempted Iraqi Attacks on U.S. Posts, January 18-19, 1991: Iraqi agents planted bombs at the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia’s home residence and at the USIS library in Manila.

Bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Argentina, March 17, 1992: Hizballah claimed responsibility for a blast that leveled the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, causing the deaths of 29 and wounding 242.

World Trade Center Bombing, February 26, 1993: The World Trade Center in New York City was badly damaged when a car bomb planted by Islamic terrorists exploded in an underground garage. The bomb left 6 people dead and 1,000 injured. The men carrying out the attack were followers of Umar Abd al-Rahman, an Egyptian cleric who preached in the New York City area.

Attempted Assassination of President Bush by Iraqi Agents, April 14, 1993: The Iraqi intelligence service attempted to assassinate former U.S. President George Bush during a visit to Kuwait. In retaliation, the U.S. launched a cruise missile attack 2 months later on the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Air France Hijacking, December 24, 1994: Members of the Armed Islamic Group seized an Air France Flight to Algeria. The four terrorists were killed during a rescue effort.

Attack on U.S. Diplomats in Pakistan, March 8, 1995: Two unidentified gunmen killed two U.S. diplomats and wounded a third in Karachi, Pakistan.

Kashmiri Hostage-taking, July 4, 1995: In India six foreigners, including two U.S. citizens, were taken hostage by Al-Faran, a Kashmiri separatist group. One non-U.S. hostage was later found beheaded.

Jerusalem Bus Attack, August 21, 1995: HAMAS claimed responsibility for the detonation of a bomb that killed 6 and injured over 100 persons, including several U.S. citizens.

Saudi Military Installation Attack, November 13, 1995: The Islamic Movement of Change planted a bomb in a Riyadh military compound that killed one U.S. citizen, several foreign national employees of the U.S. government, and over 40 others.

Egyptian Embassy Attack, November 19, 1995: A suicide bomber drove a vehicle into the Egyptian Embassy compound in Islamabad, Pakistan, killing at least 16 and injuring 60 persons. Three militant Islamic groups claimed responsibility.

HAMAS Bus Attack, February 26, 1996: In Jerusalem, a suicide bomber blew up a bus, killing 26 persons, including three U.S. citizens, and injuring some 80 persons, including three other US citizens.

Dizengoff Center Bombing, March 4, 1996: HAMAS and the Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ) both claimed responsibility for a bombing outside of Tel Aviv's largest shopping mall that killed 20 persons and injured 75 others, including 2 U.S. citizens.

West Bank Attack, May 13, 1996: Arab gunmen opened fire on a bus and a group of Yeshiva students near the Bet El settlement, killing a dual U.S./Israeli citizen and wounding three Israelis. No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but HAMAS was suspected.

Khobar Towers Bombing, June 25, 1996: A fuel truck carrying a bomb exploded outside the US military's Khobar Towers housing facility in Dhahran, killing 19 U.S. military personnel and wounding 515 persons, including 240 U.S. personnel. Several groups claimed responsibility for the attack.

Egyptian Letter Bombs, January 2-13, 1997: A series of letter bombs with Alexandria, Egypt, postmarks were discovered at Al-Hayat newspaper bureaus in Washington, New York City, London, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Three similar devices, also postmarked in Egypt, were found at a prison facility in Leavenworth, Kansas. Bomb disposal experts defused all the devices, but one detonated at the Al-Hayat office in London, injuring two security guards and causing minor damage.

Empire State Building Sniper Attack, February 23, 1997: A Palestinian gunman opened fire on tourists at an observation deck atop the Empire State Building in New York City, killing a Danish national and wounding visitors from the United States, Argentina, Switzerland, and France before turning the gun on himself. A handwritten note carried by the gunman claimed this was a punishment attack against the "enemies of Palestine."

Israeli Shopping Mall Bombing, September 4, 1997: Three suicide bombers of HAMAS detonated bombs in the Ben Yehuda shopping mall in Jerusalem, killing eight persons, including the bombers, and wounding nearly 200 others. A dual U.S./Israeli citizen was among the dead, and 7 U.S. citizens were wounded.

Murder of U.S. Businessmen in Pakistan, November 12, 1997: Two unidentified gunmen shot to death four U.S. auditors from Union Texas Petroleum Corporation and their Pakistani driver after they drove away from the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi. The Islami Inqilabi Council, or Islamic Revolutionary Council, claimed responsibility in a call to the U.S. Consulate in Karachi. In a letter to Pakistani newspapers, the Aimal Khufia Action Committee also claimed responsibility.

Tourist Killings in Egypt, November 17, 1997: Al-Gama'at al-Islamiyya (IG) gunmen shot and killed 58 tourists and four Egyptians and wounded 26 others at the Hatshepsut Temple in the Valley of the Kings near Luxor. Thirty-four Swiss, eight Japanese, five Germans, four Britons, one French, one Colombian, a dual Bulgarian/British citizen, and four unidentified persons were among the dead. Twelve Swiss, two Japanese, two Germans, one French, and nine Egyptians were among the wounded.

Somali Hostage-takings, April 15, 1998: Somali militiamen abducted nine Red Cross and Red Crescent workers at an airstrip north of Mogadishu. The hostages included a U.S. citizen, a German, a Belgian, a French, a Norwegian, two Swiss, and one Somali. The gunmen were members of a sub-clan loyal to Ali Mahdi Mohammed, who controlled the northern section of the capital.

U.S. Embassy Bombings in East Africa, August 7, 1998: A bomb exploded at the rear entrance of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, killing 12 U.S. citizens, 32 Foreign Service Nationals (FSNs), and 247 Kenyan citizens. Approximately 5,000 Kenyans, 6 U.S. citizens, and 13 FSNs were injured. The U.S. Embassy building sustained extensive structural damage. Almost simultaneously, a bomb detonated outside the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing 7 FSNs and 3 Tanzanian citizens, and injuring 1 U.S. citizen and 76 Tanzanians. The explosion caused major structural damage to the U.S. Embassy facility. The U.S. Government held Usama Bin Laden responsible.

Indian Airlines Airbus Hijacking, December 24, 1999: Five militants hijacked a flight bound from Katmandu to New Delhi carrying 189 people. The plane and its passengers were released unharmed on December 31.

2000 and beyond

Kidnappings in Kyrgyzstan, August 12, 2000: In the Kara-Su Valley, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan took four U.S. citizens hostage. The Americans escaped on August 12.

Church Bombing in Tajikistan, October 1, 2000: Unidentified militants detonated two bombs in a Christian church in Dushanbe, killing seven persons and injuring 70 others. The church was founded by a Korean-born U.S. citizen, and most of those killed and wounded were Korean. No one claimed responsibility.

Attack on U.S.S. Cole, October 12, 2000: In Aden, Yemen, a small dingy carrying explosives rammed the destroyer U.S.S. Cole, killing 17 sailors and injuring 39 others. Supporters of Usama Bin Laden were suspected.

Manila Bombing, December 30, 2000: A bomb exploded in a plaza across the street from the U.S. Embassy in Manila, injuring nine persons. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front was likely responsible.

Suicide Bombing in Israel, March 4, 2001: A suicide bomb attack in Netanya killed 3 persons and wounded 65. HAMAS later claimed responsibility.

Airliner Hijacking in Istanbul, March 15, 2001: Three Chechens hijacked a Russian airliner during a flight from Istanbul to Moscow and forced it to fly to Medina, Saudi Arabia. The plane carried 162 passengers and a crew of 12. After a 22-hour siege during which more than 40 passengers were released, Saudi security forces stormed the plane, killing a hijacker, a passenger, and a flight attendant.

Bus Stop Bombing, April 22, 2001: A member of HAMAS detonated a bomb he was carrying near a bus stop in Kfar Siva, Israel, killing one person and injuring 60.

Philippines Hostage Incident, May 27, 2001: Muslim Abu Sayyaf guerrillas seized 13 tourists and 3 staff members at a resort on Palawan Island and took their captives to Basilan Island. The captives included three U.S. citizens: Guellermo Sobero and missionaries Martin and Gracia Burnham. Philippine troops fought a series of battles with the guerrillas between June 1 and June 3 during which 9 hostages escaped and two were found dead. The guerrillas took additional hostages when they seized the hospital in the town of Lamitan. On June 12, Abu Sayyaf spokesman Abu Sabaya claimed that Sobero had been killed and beheaded; his body was found in October. The Burnhams remained in captivity until June 2002.

Tel-Aviv Nightclub Bombing, June 1, 2001: HAMAS claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing of a popular Israeli nightclub that caused over 140 casualties.

HAMAS Restaurant Bombing, August 9, 2001: A HAMAS-planted bomb detonated in a Jerusalem pizza restaurant, killing 15 people and wounding more than 90. The Israeli response included occupation of Orient House, the Palestine Liberation Organization’s political headquarters in East Jerusalem.

Suicide Bombing in Israel, September 9, 2001: The first suicide bombing carried out by an Israeli Arab killed 3 persons in Nahariya. HAMAS claimed responsibility.

Death of "the Lion of the Panjshir", September 9, 2001: Two suicide bombers fatally wounded Ahmed Shah Massoud, a leader of Afghanistan’s Northern Alliance, which had opposed both the Soviet occupation and the post-Soviet Taliban government. The bombers posed as journalists and were apparently linked to al-Qaida. The Northern Alliance did not confirm Massoud’s death until September 15.

Terrorist Attacks on U.S. Homeland, September 11, 2001: Two hijacked airliners crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Soon thereafter, the Pentagon was struck by a third hijacked plane. A fourth hijacked plane, suspected to be bound for a high-profile target in Washington, crashed into a field in southern Pennsylvania. The attacks killed 3,025 U.S. citizens and other nationals. President Bush and Cabinet officials indicated that Usama Bin Laden was the prime suspect and that they considered the United States in a state of war with international terrorism. In the aftermath of the attacks, the United States formed the Global Coalition Against Terrorism.

Attack on the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, October 1, 2001: After a suicide car bomber forced the gate of the state legislature in Srinagar, two gunmen entered the building and held off police for seven hours before being killed. Forty persons died in the incident. Jaish-e-Muhammad claimed responsibility.

Anthrax Attacks, October-November 2001: On October 7 the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that investigators had detected evidence that the deadly anthrax bacterium was present in the building where a Florida man who died of anthrax on October 5 had worked. Discovery of a second anthrax case triggered a major investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The two anthrax cases were the first to appear in the United States in 25 years. Anthrax subsequently appeared in mail received by television networks in New York and by the offices in Washington of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and other members of Congress. Attorney General John Ashcroft said in a briefing on October 16, "When people send anthrax through the mail to hurt people and invoke terror, it’s a terrorist act."

Assassination of an Israeli Cabinet Minister, October 17, 2001: A Palestinian gunman assassinated Israeli Minister of Tourism Rehavam Zeevi in the Jerusalem hotel where he was staying. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed to have avenged the death of PFLP Mustafa Zubari.

Attack on a Church in Pakistan, October 28, 2001: Six masked gunmen shot up a church in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, killing 15 Pakistani Christians. No group claimed responsibility, although various militant Muslim groups were suspected.

Suicide Bombings in Jerusalem, December 1, 2001: Two suicide bombers attacked a Jerusalem shopping mall, killing 10 persons and wounding 170.

Suicide Bombing in Haifa, December 2, 2001: A suicide bomb attack aboard a bus in Haifa, Israel, killed 15 persons and wounded 40. HAMAS claimed responsibility for both this attack and those on December 1 to avenge the death of a HAMAS member at the hands of Israeli forces a week earlier.

Attack on the Indian Parliament, December 13, 2001: Five gunmen attacked the Indian Parliament in New Delhi shortly after it had adjourned. Before security forces killed them, the attackers killed 6 security personnel and a gardener. Indian officials blamed Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and demanded that Pakistan crack down on it and on other Muslim separatist groups in Kashmir.

Ambush on the West Bank, January 15, 2002: Palestinian militants fired on a vehicle in Beit Sahur, killing one passenger and wounding the other. The dead passenger claimed U.S. and Israeli citizenship. The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Battalion claimed responsibility.

Kidnapping of Daniel Pearl, January 23, 2002: Armed militants kidnapped Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Karachi, Pakistan. Pakistani authorities received a videotape on February 20 depicting Pearl’s murder. His grave was found near Karachi on May 16. Pakistani authorities arrested four suspects. Ringleader Ahmad Omar Saeed Sheikh claimed to have organized Pearl’s kidnapping to protest Pakistan’s subservience to the United States, and had belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad, an Islamic separatist group in Kashmir. All four suspects were convicted on July 15. Saeed Sheikh was sentenced to death, the others to life imprisonment.

Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem, January 27, 2002: A suicide bomb attack in Jerusalem killed one other person and wounded 100. The incident was the first suicide bombing made by a Palestinian woman.

Suicide Bombing in the West Bank, February 16, 2002: A suicide bombing in an outdoor food court in Karmei Shomron killed 4 persons and wounded 27. Two of the dead and two of the wounded were U.S. citizens. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in the West Bank, March 7, 2002: A suicide bombing in a supermarket in the settlement of Ariel wounded 10 persons, one of whom was a U.S. citizen. The PFLP claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem, March 21, 2002: A suicide bombing in Jerusalem killed 3 persons and wounded 86 more, including 2 U.S. citizens. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Israel, March 27, 2002: A suicide bombing in a noted restaurant in Netanya, Israel, killed 22 persons and wounded 140. One of the dead was a U.S. citizen. The Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) claimed responsibility.

Temple Bombing in Kashmir, March 30, 2002: A bomb explosion at a Hindu temple in Jammu, Kashmir, killed 10 persons. The Islamic Front claimed responsibility.

Synagogue Bombing in Tunisia, April 11, 2002: A suicide bomber detonated a truck loaded with propane gas outside a historic synagogue in Djerba, Tunisia. The 16 dead included 11 Germans, one French citizen, and three Tunisians. Twenty-six German tourists were injured. The Islamic Army for the Liberation of the Holy Sites claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem, April 12, 2002: A female suicide bomber killed 6 persons in Jerusalem and wounded 90 others. The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades claimed responsibility.

Car Bombing in Pakistan, May 8, 2002: A car bomb exploded near a Pakistani navy shuttle bus in Karachi, killing 12 persons and wounding 19. Eleven of the dead and 11 of the wounded were French nationals. Al-Qaida was suspected of the attack.

Parade Bombing in Russia, May 9, 2002: A remotely-controlled bomb exploded near a May Day parade in Kaspiisk, Dagestan, killing 42 persons and wounding 150. Fourteen of the dead and 50 of the wounded were soldiers. Islamists linked to al-Qaida were suspected.

Attack on a Bus in India, May 14, 2002: Militants fired on a passenger bus in Kaluchak, Jammu, killing 7 persons. They then entered a military housing complex and killed 3 soldiers and 7 military dependents before they were killed. The al-Mansooran and Jamiat ul-Mujahedin claimed responsibility.

Bomb Attacks in Kashmir, May 17, 2002: A bomb explosion near a civil secretariat area in Srinagar, Kashmir, wounded 6 persons. In Jammu, a bomb exploded at a fire services headquarters, killing two and wounding 16. No group claimed responsibility for either attack.

Hostage Rescue Attempt in the Philippines, June 7, 2002: Philippine Army troops attacked Abu Sayyaf terrorists on Mindanao Island in an attempt to rescue U.S. citizen Martin Burnham and his wife Gracia, who had been kidnapped more than a year ago. Burnham was killed but his wife, though wounded, was freed. A Filipino hostage was killed, as were four of the guerrillas. Seven soldiers were wounded.

Car Bombing in Pakistan, June 14, 2002: A car bomb exploded near the U.S. Consulate and the Marriott Hotel in Karachi, Pakistan. Eleven persons were killed and 51 were sounded, including one U.S. and one Japanese citizen. Al Qaida and al-Qanin were suspected.

Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem, June 19, 2002: A suicide bombing at a bus stop in Jerusalem killed 6 persons and wounded 43, including 2 U.S. citizens. The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Tel Aviv, July 17, 2002: Two suicide bombers attacked the old bus station in Tel Aviv, Israel, killing 5 persons and wounding 38. The dead included one Romanian and two Chinese; another Romanian was wounded. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility.

Bombing at the Hebrew University, July 31, 2002: A bomb hidden in a bag in the Frank Sinatra International Student Center of Jerusalem’s Hebrew University killed 9 persons and wounded 87. The dead included 5 U.S. citizens and 4 Israelis. The wounded included 4 U.S. citizens, 2 Japanese, and 3 South Koreans. The Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Israel, August 4, 2002: A suicide bomb attack on a bus in Safed, Israel, killed 9 persons and wounded 50. Two of the dead were Philippine citizens; many of the wounded were soldiers returning from leave. HAMAS claimed responsibility.

Attack on a School in Pakistan, August 5, 2002: Gunmen attacked a Christian school attended by children of missionaries from around the world. Six persons (two security guards, a cook, a carpenter, a receptionist, and a private citizen) were killed and a Philippine citizen was wounded. A group called al-Intigami al-Pakistani claimed responsibility.

Attack on Pilgrims in Kashmir, August 6, 2002: Armed militants attacked a group of Hindu pilgrims with guns and grenades in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Nine persons were killed and 32 were wounded. The Lashkar-e-Tayyiba claimed responsibility.

Assassination in Kashmir, September 11, 2002: Gunmen killed Kashmir’s Law Minister Mushtaq Ahmed Lone and six security guards in Tikipora. Lashkar-e-Tayyiga, Jamiat ul-Mujahedin, and Hizb ul-Mujahedin all claimed responsibility. Other militants attacked the residence of the Minister of Tourism with grenades, injuring four persons. No group claimed responsibility.

Ambush on the West Bank, September 18, 2002: Gunmen ambushed a vehicle on a road near Yahad, killing an Israeli and wounding a Romanian worker. The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bomb Attack in Israel, September 19, 2002: A suicide bomb attack on a bus in Tel Aviv killed 6 persons and wounded 52. One of the dead was a British subject. HAMAS claimed responsibility.

Attack on a French Tanker, October 6, 2002: An explosive-laden boat rammed the French oil tanker Limburg, which was anchored about 5 miles off al-Dhabbah, Yemen. One person was killed and 4 were wounded. Al-Qaida was suspected.

Car Bomb Explosion in Bali, October 12, 2002: A car bomb exploded outside the Sari Club Discotheque in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, killing 202 persons and wounding 300 more. Most of the casualties, including 88 of the dead, were Australian tourists. Seven Americans were among the dead. Al-Qaida claimed responsibility. Two suspects were later arrested and convicted. Iman Samudra, who had trained in Afghanistan with al-Qaeda and was suspected of belonging to Jemaah Islamiya, was sentenced to death on September 10, 2003.

Chechen Rebels Seize a Moscow Theater, October 23-26, 2002: Fifty Chechen rebels led by Movsar Barayev seized the Palace of Culture Theater in Moscow, Russia, to demand an end to the war in Chechnya. They seized more than 800 hostages from 13 countries and threatened to blow up the theater. During a three-day siege, they killed a Russian policeman and five Russian hostages. On October 26, Russian Special Forces pumped an anesthetic gas through the ventilation system and then stormed the theater. All of the rebels were killed, but 94 hostages (including one American) also died, many from the effects of the gas. A group led by Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem, November 21, 2002: A suicide bomb attack on a bus on Mexico Street in Jerusalem killed 11 persons and wounded 50 more. One of the dead was a Romanian. HAMAS claimed responsibility.

Attack on Temples in Kashmir, November 24, 2002: Armed militants attacked the Reghunath and Shiv temples in Jammu, Kashmir, killing 13 persons and wounding 50. The Lashkare-e-Tayyiba claimed responsibility.

Attacks on Israeli Tourists in Kenya, November 28, 2002: A three-person suicide car bomb attack on the Paradise Hotel in Mombasa, Kenya, killed 15 persons and wounded 40. Three of the dead and 18 of the wounded were Israeli tourists; the others were Kenyans. Near Mombasa’s airport, two SA-7 shoulder-fired missiles were fired as an Arkia Airlines Boeing 757 that was carrying 261 passengers back to Israel. Both missiles missed. Al-Qaida, the Government of Universal Palestine in Exile, and the Army of Palestine claimed responsibility for both attacks. Al-Ittihad al-Islami was also suspected of involvement.

Attack on a Bus in the Philippines, December 26, 2002: Armed militants ambushed a bus carrying Filipino workers employed by the Canadian Toronto Ventures Inc. Pacific mining company in Zamboanga del Norte. Thirteen persons were killed and 10 wounded. Philippine authorities suspected the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which had been extorting money from Toronto Ventures. The Catholic charity Caritas-Philippines said that Toronto Ventures had harassed tribesmen who opposed mining on their ancestral lands.

Bombing of a Government Building in Chechnya, December 27, 2002: A suicide bomb attack involving two explosives-laden trucks destroyed the offices of the pro-Russian Chechen government in Grozny. The attack killed over 80 people and wounded 210. According to a Chechen website run by the Kavkaz Center, Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombings in Tel Aviv, January 5, 2003: Two suicide bomb attacks killed 22 and wounded at least 100 persons in Tel Aviv, Israel. Six of the victims were foreign workers. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades claimed responsibility.

Assasination of a Kurdish Leader, February 8, 2003: Members of Ansar al-Islam assassinated Kurdish legislator Shawkat Haji Mushir and captured two other Kurdish officials in Qamash Tapa in northern Iraq.

Suicide Bombing in Netanya, March 30, 2003: A suicide bombing in a cafe in Netanya, Israel, wounded 38 persons. Only the bomber was killed. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility and called the attack a "gift" to the people of Iraq.

Truck Bomb Attacks in Saudi Arabia, May 12, 2003: Suicide bombers attacked three residential compounds for foreign workers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 34 dead included 9 attackers, 7 other Saudis, 9 U.S. citizens, and one citizen each from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Philippines. Another American died on June 1. It was the first major attack on U.S. targets in Saudi Arabia since the end of the war in Iraq. Saudi authorities arrested 11 al-Qaida suspects on May 28.

Truck Bombing in Chechnya, May 12, 2003: A truck bomb explosion demolished a government compound in Znamenskoye, Chechnya, killing 54 persons. Russian authorities blamed followers of a Saudi-born Islamist named Abu Walid. President Vladimir Putin said that he suspected that there was an al-Qaida connection.

Attempted Assassination in Chechnya, May 12, 2003: Two female suicide bombers attacked Chechen Administrator Mufti Akhmed Kadyrov during a religious festival in Iliskhan Yurt. Kadyrov escaped injury, but 14 other persons were killed and 43 were wounded. Chechen rebel leader Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bomb Attacks in Morocco, May 16, 2003: A team of 12 suicide bombers attacked five targets in Casablanca, Morocco, killing 43 persons and wounding 100. The targets were a Spanish restaurant, a Jewish community, a Jewish cemetery, a hotel, and the Belgian Consulate. HAMAS claimed responsibility, calling it revenge for an Israeli helicopter attack on HAMAS leader Abdelaziz al-Rantisi in Gaza City the day before.

Truck Bombing in Northern Ossetia, August 1, 2003: A suicide truck bomb attack destroyed a Russian military hospital in Mozdok, North Ossetia and killed 50 persons. Russian authorities attributed the attack to followers of Chechen rebel leader Shamil Basayev.

Hotel Bombing in Indonesia, August 5, 2003: A car bomb exploded outside the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, killing 10 persons and wounding 150. One of the dead was a Dutch citizen. The wounded included an American, a Canadian, an Australian, and two Chinese. Indonesian authorities suspected the Jemaah Islamiah, which had carried out the October 12, 2002 bombing in Bali.

Bombing of the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad, August 7, 2003: A car bomb exploded outside the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, killing 19 persons and wounding 65. Most of the victims were apparently Iraqis, including 5 police officers. No group claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombings in Israel and the West Bank, August 12, 2003: The first suicide bombings since the June 29 Israeli-Palestinian truce took place. The first, in a supermarket at Rosh Haayin, Israel, killed one person and wounded 14. The second, at a bus stop near the Ariel settlement in the West Bank, killed one person and wounded 3. The al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades claimed responsibility for the first; HAMAS claimed responsibility for the second.

Bombing of the UN Headquarters in Baghdad, August 19, 2003: A truck loaded with surplus Iraqi ordnance exploded outside the United Nations Headquarters in Baghdad’s Canal Hotel. A hospital across the street was also heavily damaged. The 23 dead included UN Special Representative Sergio Viera de Mello. More than 100 persons were wounded. It was not clear whether the bomber was a Baath Party loyalist or a foreign Islamic militant. An al-Qaeda branch called the Brigades of the Martyr Abu Hafz al-Masri later claimed responsibility.

Suicide Bombing in Jerusalem, August 19, 2003: A suicide bombing aboard a bus in Jerusalem killed 20 persons and injured at least 100, one of whom died later. Five of the dead were American citizens. HAMAS and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility, although HAMAS leader al-Rantisi said that his organization remained committed to the truce while reserving the right to respond to Israeli military actions.

Car Bomb Kills Shi’ite Leader in Najaf, August 29, 2003: A car bomb explosion outside the Shrine of the Imam Ali in Najaf, Iraq killed at least 81 persons and wounded at least 140. The dead included the Ayatollah Mohammed Bakir al-Hakim, one of four leading Shi’ite clerics in Iraq. Al-Hakim had been the leader of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) since its establishment in 1982, and SCIRI had recently agreed to work with the U.S.-sponsored Iraqi Governing Council. It was not known whether the perpetrators were Baath Party loyalists, rival Shi’ites, or foreign Islamists.

Suicide Bombings in Israel, September 9, 2003: Two suicide bombings took place in Israel. The first, at a bus stop near the Tsrifin army base southeast of Tel Aviv, killed 7 soldiers and wounded 14 soldiers and a civilian. The second, at a café in Jerusalem’s German Colony neighborhood, killed 6 persons and wounded 40. HAMAS did not claim responsibility until the next day, although a spokesman called the first attack" a response to Israeli aggression."

Assassination of an Iraqi Governing Council Member, September 20, 2003: Gunmen shot and seriously wounded Akila Hashimi, one of three female members of the Iraqi Governing Council, near her home in Baghdad. She died September 25.

A Second Attack on the UN Headquarters in Baghdad, September 22, 2003: A suicide car bomb attack on the UN Headquarters in Baghdad killed a security guard and wounded 19 other persons.

Suicide Bombing in Israel, October 4, 2003: A Palestinian woman made a suicide bomb attack on a restaurant in Haifa, killing 19 persons and wounding at least 55. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack. The next day, Israel bombed a terrorist training camp in Syria.

Attacks in Iraq, October 9, 2003: Gunmen assassinated a Spanish military attaché in Baghdad. A suicide car bomb attack on an Iraqi police station killed 8 persons and wounded 40.

Car Bombings in Baghdad, October 12, 2003: Two suicide car bombs exploded outside the Baghdad Hotel, which housed U.S. officials. Six persons were killed and 32 wounded. Iraqi and U.S. security personnel apparently kept the cars from actually reaching the hotel.

Bomb Attack on U.S. Diplomats in the Gaza Strip, October 15, 2003: A remote-controlled bomb exploded under a car in a U.S. diplomatic convoy passing through the northern Gaza Strip. Three security guards, all employees of DynCorp, were killed. A fourth was wounded. The diplomats were on their way to interview Palestinian candidates for Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States. Palestinian President Arafat and Prime Minister Qurei condemned the attack, while the major Palestinian militant groups denied responsibility. The next day, Palestinian security forces arrested several suspects, some of whom belonged to the Popular Resistance Committees.

Rocket Attack on the al-Rashid Hotel in Baghdad, October 26, 2003: Iraqis using an improvised rocket launcher bombarded the al-Rashid Hotel in Baghdad, killing one U.S. Army officer and wounding 17 persons. The wounded included 4 U.S. military personnel and seven American civilians. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul D. Wolfowitz, who was staying at the hotel, was not injured. After visiting the wounded, he said, "They’re not going to scare us away; we’re not giving up on this job."

Assassination of a Deputy Mayor in Baghdad, October 26, 2003: Two gunmen believed to be Baath Party loyalists assassinated Faris Abdul Razaq al-Assam, one of three deputy mayors of Baghdad. U.S. officials did not announce al-Assam’s death until October 28.

Wave of Car Bombings in Baghdad, October 27, 2003: A series of suicide car bombings in Baghdad killed at least 35 persons and wounded at least 230. Four attacks were directed at Iraqi police stations, the fifth and most destructive was directed at the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters, where at least 12 persons were killed. A sixth attack failed when a car bomb failed to explode and the bomber was wounded and captured by Iraqi police. U.S. and Iraqi officials suspected that foreign terrorists were involved; the unsuccessful bomber said he was a Syrian national and carried a Syrian passport. After a meeting with Administrator L. Paul Bremer, President Bush said, "The more successful we are on the ground, the more these killers will react."

Suicide Bombing in Riyadh, November 8, 2003: In Riyadh, a suicide car bombing took place in the Muhaya residential compound, which was occupied mainly by nationals of other Arab countries. Seventeen persons were killed and 122 were wounded. The latter included 4 Americans. The next day, Deputy Secretary of State Armitage said al-Qaeda was probably responsible.

Truck Bombing in Nasiriyah, November 12, 2003: A suicide truck bomb destroyed the headquarters of the Italian military police in Nasiriyah, Iraq, killing 18 Italians and 11 Iraqis and wounding at least 100 persons.

Synagogue Bombings in Istanbul, November 15, 2003: Two suicide truck bombs exploded outside the Neve Shalom and Beth Israel synagogues in Istanbul, killing 25 persons and wounding at least 300 more. The initial claim of responsibility came from a Turkish militant group, the Great Eastern Islamic Raiders’ Front, but Turkish authorities suspected an al-Qaeda connection. The next day, the London-based newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi received an e-mail in which an al-Qaeda branch called the Brigades of the Martyr Abu Hafz al-Masri claimed responsibility for the Istanbul synagogue bombings.

More Suicide Truck Bombings in Istanbul, November 20, 2003: Two more suicide truck bombings devastated the British HSBC Bank and the British Consulate General in Istanbul, killing 27 persons and wounding at least 450. The dead included Consul General Roger Short. U.S., British, and Turkish officials suspected that al-Qaeda had struck again. The U.S. Consulate in Istanbul was closed, and the Embassy in Ankara advised American citizens in Istanbul to stay home.

Car Bombing in Kirkuk, November 20, 2003: A suicide car bombing in Kirkuk killed 5 persons. The target appeared to be the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. PUK officials suspected the Ansar al-Islam group, which was said to have sheltered fugitive Taliban and al-Qaeda members after the U.S. campaign in Afghanistan.

Attacks on Other Coalition Personnel in Iraq, November 29-30, 2003: Iraqi insurgents stepped up attacks on nationals of other members of the Coalition. On November 29, an ambush in Mahmudiyah killed 7 out of a party of 8 Spanish intelligence officers. Iraqi insurgents also killed two Japanese diplomats near Tikrit. On November 30, another ambush near Tikrit killed two South Korean electrical workers and wounded two more. A Colombian employee of Kellogg Brown & Root was killed and two were wounded in an ambush near Balad.

Train Bombing in Southern Russia, December 5, 2003: A suicide bomb attack killed 42 persons and wounded 150 aboard a Russian commuter train in the south Russian town of Yessentuki. Russian officials suspected Chechen rebels; President Putin said the attack was meant to disrupt legislative elections. Chechen rebel leader Aslan Maskhadov denied any involvement.

Suicide Car Bombings in Iraq, December 15, 2003: Two days after the capture of Saddam Hussein, there were two suicide car bomb attacks on Iraqi police stations. One at Husainiyah killed 8 persons and wounded 20. The other, at Ameriyah, wounded 7 Iraqi police. Guards repelled a second vehicle.

Office Bombing in Baghdad, December 19, 2003: A bomb destroyed the Baghdad office of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, killing a woman and wounding at least 7 other persons.

Suicide Car Bombing in Irbil, December 24, 2003: A suicide car bomb attack on the Kurdish Interior Ministry in Irbil, Iraq, killed 5 persons and wounded 101.

Attempted Assassination in Rawalpindi, December 25, 2003: Two suicide truck bombers killed 14 persons as President Musharraf’s motorcade passed through Rawalpindi, Pakistan. An earlier attempt on December 14 caused no casualties. Pakistani officials suspected Afghan and Kashmiri militants. On January 6, 2004, Pakistani authorities announced the arrest of 6 suspects who were said to be members of Jaish-e-Muhammad.

Suicide Bombing in Israel, December 25, 2003: A Palestinian suicide bomber killed 4 persons at a bus stop near Petah Tikva, Israel. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack in retaliation for Israeli military operations in Nablus that had begun two days earlier.

I have been told by multiple parties that, though we know little about Judge Clement's leanings on social issues, we should make no mistake that her family background is conservative and that her husband is a "loyal" conservative. Also, I've gotten a few emails and phone calls from a few particular people who would know who all say that we should trust the President on this pick. I also know that lawyers in my home state of Louisiana like Clement and do think she is conservative.

贱鄙的设境―评李陀《恐怖：植根于当代文明内部的暴力形式》

李陀先生一些文学评论文章早些年我看过，想当年，左右派交锋时刻，李先生不甘寂寞，于烽烟快散之际，一声断喝“让争论浮出水面”再起波澜。浸淫文学评论已久的李陀先生，这回用他那炉火纯青的文学描述，构设了一个头脑简单情感丰富的政治评论。

虽然我有思想准备其人是个俗语所说的“老左”，但这文还是令我大感愤怒的。
看开头一些文字吧：

“有两张照片牢牢钉在我的记忆里。这是两个女孩的照片，一个名字是阿亚特-阿克拉斯(Ayat Akhras)，18岁，高中学生。一个名字是安达利布-哈利勒-塔卡特卡(新闻里只有中文译名)，20岁，家住约旦河西岸希伯伦市附近拜特费贾尔村，身份不详。媒体对她们的介绍很简略，只说前一个女孩在"将要牺牲前不到24小时，她还与家人和未婚夫一起，谈论一定要完成高中学业，毕业后再结婚"；而对后者则说"看上去充满青春气息，对生活充满热爱"。可是这两个女孩分别在今年3月29日和4月12日分别在一家购物中心和一个公共汽车站引爆身携的炸弹，造成共计近百人伤亡的惨剧。毫无疑问，她们是恐怖分子。她们粉身碎骨的目标不是以色列的坦克和大炮，是无辜的平民百姓。但是，我相信，面对这两个女孩儿的遗照，很多人都会和我一样，当我们伸出手指，指认她们是恐怖分子的时候，手指会犹豫，心灵会战栗，不管那是多么轻微，或是多么严重。因为照片上两双美丽的眼睛正凝视着我们，向我们问道：我们粉身碎骨，你知道不知道这是为什么？那目光是严肃的，也是温和的，可这温和的质问却是无形的高压，力重千钧。 ”

恰好的是，前天晚上，我在我们省的媒体上看一则新闻，说以色列打死两个巴勒斯坦人，镜头上放映着两人的遇难尸体，和周围持着枪的以色列士兵，还有切换镜头的激愤的巴勒斯坦民众。

新闻没有说明两人潜入以色列干什么，只是用似乎公正的新闻角度，说着一件事情。我们也可以看到，这样描述也并非空穴来风，平空造设的事件太过弱智。 “造境”是指生安白造，在媒体发达的今天，用这个方法有越来越大的风险，自从所谓“杰宁大屠杀”后少见人用了。“设境”越来越用得炉火纯青了，“设境”实际上是选镜头，从一系列事情中挑选出来某些镜头，来表达一种观点。有着杀人不见血、进可攻退可守的特效。“设境”关键之处要设置一些民众共知的事情，比如上面的事件，“以色列士兵打死了人”、“两个巴勒斯坦人”、“很多持枪的士兵”、“激愤的人群”，这些事情可以说每句话都是对的，你可以从中央电视台或者纽约时报都可以核实。可以预料，这种镜头切换过来，会起到一种什么效果。

上面的地方电视台相对比某些核心媒体起来，还是没变态到颠倒是非地步的，因为我在这新闻最后听到一句“这两人是潜入以色列的巴勒斯坦士兵”。虽然新闻就此而终，但这一句是致命的。

相比上面的新闻，李陀先生多了几分本行特色，设置的：“这是两个女孩”、“一个女孩在将要牺牲前不到24小时，她还与家人和未婚夫一起，谈论一定要完成高中学业，毕业后再结婚”、“看上去充满青春气息，对生活充满热爱”，李陀先生说明这是媒体对他们的介绍。显然，这些文字的构建是为了表达一个观点：这两个年青并且“对生活充满热爱”（注意这几个字眼）女孩，若非现况把她们逼到绝境，她们还会这样不顾自己生死去充当人肉炸弹么？

反驳李先生这样的问题其实很简单。疯狂并不一定起源于绝望，也可能起源热爱。不过他们热爱的是他们信仰的东西，比如宗教理想或者具体某个人。我没有经历文革，但是以李先生的年龄，他是经历过的。当时其年正值风华，应该是正在编辑《北京工人》报的时间吧？他应该不会不知道，在北京中学，一些校长老师就是被李先生所认为“充满青春气息”的中学生杀死的，手段之残忍，听之恻然。至于他们是否“热爱生活”，我是不敢想李先生那样下结论的。因为每个人都有不同的“热爱生活”概念。这些杀人的少男少女，李先生是否会认为他们“深深的绝望”么？并且这样的暴行在全国都泛滥着，恰如李所说的“这两个女孩不过是许许多多爆炸中两次爆炸，在她们之前，在她们之后，都有长长的队列，何况，我们至今看不到这队列的尽头。”也不知道李先生当年是否有幸见过天安门前的数以百万计的如何壮观的红卫兵队伍，等候领袖接见。那种狂热，莫非也是“因为绝望”？

按李先生题目《恐怖：植根于当代文明内部的暴力形式》和文字所表达的，无论拉登、人肉炸弹、所谓解放组织、或者南京投毒案犯、石家庄爆炸案犯，等等，都是来自于文明，是文明内部产物。这就是李先生的逻辑。

“杰宁的废墟其实也是那些生活在穷国，生活在第三世界亿万无望的人的处境的象征。但是，全世界的媒体和舆论机器都被动员起来，极力掩盖这一可怕的事实。”。

李先生也太过于高估全世界媒体和言论的智商了，他假设了一个含概全世界的大阴谋，这实在属于“造境”范畴，用这种手法，按广东话来说是太“低B”了。这恐怕是他不愿意干的事。文学的激情描述让他连“设境”的防线都忘记了，开始臆想起阴谋论来。

真实的景况应该值得李先生抚额庆贺，我们不难看到，许多置身于外的媒体不断传回“以色列乱屠乱杀和美国动辄狂轰滥炸”的信息，无数人文学者在不断在分析恐怖的“深刻根源”。

“可以断言，只要这个世界的统治秩序不根本改变以消除普遍的绝望，以恐怖来反抗恐怖的战争就绝不会停止，目前也许不过是刚刚开始。”
这是李文最后一句，显然，李先生是认为恐怖来自绝望，绝望因为“这个世界的统治秩序”。归根究底，李先生是认为这个世界统治秩序有问题，那么，什么样的秩序才会产生没有恐怖世界大同的世界呢？他没有明说，但是字里行间透着他对如今秩序的极度憎恨，“它们假装这世界是个美好的世界，科技在进步，市场在扩大，资本在流通，一个全球化的世界新秩序正在形成”，揭穿了，他是期望一个平等的无差异世界，一个消失了各种仇恨的乌托邦世界。他认为现状是越来越糟糕的，原谅我用可怕的推理，不知李先生是否认为洪荒时代才是最合理的世界呢？

这不禁让我想起今年早些时候的“国际作家之旅”。里面有若干诺贝尔文学奖得主，还有我们所熟悉的本土诗人北岛。

且看这些人作出了什么“促进和平”举动吧，北岛在《午夜之门》里，用“劳动模范光荣榜” 比拟拉马拉市中心的“自杀烈士”肖像，他的造境语言也不错，“秀美的姑娘”更是“女烈士”；诺奖得主萨拉马戈更荒唐，他说“在这里发生的罪行可以与奥斯维辛相比。”

一位学人对这些所谓得为促进和平而去的国际作家议会说得好，“缺乏理性这一点还表现在，这些作家们没有摒弃传统的左右派别之争，在以巴冲突中，没能树立“人权至上”的现代标准。他们单方面地支持巴勒斯坦，不同时去维护以色列平民的人权，实际上鼓励了巴勒斯坦恐怖分子。而越来越多的人肉炸弹，又使得以色列极右强硬派获得更多支持，冤冤相报，和平的希望因此越来越渺茫。” 也正因此，这些作家宣称的“携带全球超越一切党派、为促进国际和平以及文化对话的作家、艺术家和学者的和平愿望”的口号显得如此幼稚。

不久前，又一起恐怖事件发生在亚洲的印尼，最新公布的死亡人数是216人，受伤者309人。
李先生等人分析起来，恐怕又是绝望的恐怖事件，是对霸权的报复了。如今，就连一贯习惯于“分析深刻原因”的新加坡《联合早报》社论口吻都改变了：巴厘岛爆炸事件表明，恐怖分子就在不远处。文章说，尽管受到东南亚国家的敦促和国际社会的压力，但印尼当局在反恐问题上一直表现得很不情愿，既不敢正视自己国内存在着恐怖势力的事实，更不愿对这些恐怖组织采取断然的打击措施。这种暧昧和放任的态度，使东南亚地区的整体反恐力度大大被削弱，印尼甚至成为国际反恐战线上最薄弱的环节。文章披露，早在巴厘岛发生恐怖爆炸之前，美国情报部门就曾多次向印尼当局发出有可能发生恐怖袭击的警告，并且对雅加达反恐措施的不力深为担心。对于这些，印尼政府在心态上一直都有抵触，认为这是干涉印尼的内政。

提醒李先生的是，这不是出于美国纽约时报或者英国某某霸权控制的报纸，而是惯于提倡文化多元化、互相尊重什么主权完整的《新加坡早报》社论，这报纸以往说美国霸权说的不比我们核心报刊差多少。

我也相信李陀先生不会忘记发生在我们自己国土的事件，比如石家庄爆炸、南京投毒，如果还没有抓到凶手，不知李先生是否会构设着某种合理的“境”：绝望还是愤怒？可是结果可能令李先生大为失望，南京案中下毒的人并没有和谁有深仇大恨，他甚至和那家早餐店主熟稔，早餐店主并没有杀他全家，有令他绝望到毒死毒伤几百人的程度。李先生对这种不合他“设境”选择的事件，是大缄其口的。他关怀不了自己的国家的投毒分子，只好用无处发泄的悲悯之心，去关怀异国他乡的恐怖份子。

此地长眠着巴勒斯坦人民的儿子、巴勒斯坦解放组织领导人阿拉法特主席。
　　
　　阿拉法特生于1929年，卒于2004年11月11日。终其一生，阿拉法特为了巴勒斯坦的解放事业鞠躬尽瘁、奋斗不已，从组建法塔赫开始，他就把一生奉献给了巴勒斯坦人民的解放事业。自1969年开始，担任巴勒斯坦解放组织执委会主席，至今于七十多岁高龄仍不放弃当了三十多年的巴解领导人职位，甘愿作人民的公务员，为其他国家领导人树立一个光辉榜样。在美国总统竞选动辄花费数亿计美元时，充分展示了阿拉法特的卓见。
　　
　　阿拉法特为了民族事业，花费大量人力物力，招募民众对付以色列人，例如他指挥阿克萨烈士旅，用高明战术去对付以色列，数百名巴勒斯坦的好儿女在自杀式炸弹袭击中献出了年青的生命。公共汽车、市场、酒吧，以色列每一寸土地都是伟大的阿拉法特的战场。
　　
　　至其去世之日，阿拉法特拥有数十亿美元财富，这充分说明了他的艰苦朴素，知悭识俭。并且由于他的深谋远虑，使巴勒斯坦的敌人美国和以色列不能知道财富所在，避免了财富流入敌人之手。
　　
　　阿拉法特曾发誓终身不娶，但是为了培育巴勒斯坦未来接班人着想，他不得不打破自己誓言，相继和几位年轻姑娘走在一块。比如年轻他35岁的苏哈就是陪伴他的最后一位，粉碎了敌人用年龄来逼迫他下台的阴谋，显示他旺盛的精力，也展现了他独特的个人魅力。
　　
　　为了争取更多朋友支持，他不惜代价，派出自己妻子苏哈，带着女儿，长住在巴黎市豪华的布里斯托饭店，每天的耗用是惊人的。这对一向俭朴的阿拉法特是一种沉重打击。但这也证明是卓有成效的，阿拉法特在巴勒斯坦为民族事业奋斗，苏哈则忍受背离家园痛苦，在巴黎为巴勒斯坦民族事业奋斗。她指责以色列军队向巴勒斯坦人施放毒气，导致一些妇女和儿童罹患癌症。她为争取更多人关注支持巴勒斯坦作出卓越贡献。

主持人：各位观众你们好，今天是六七四月七日，欢迎收看乌鸦台的时事节目，我是主持人子虚乌有。现在我们请到了刚从中国完成采访任务的20世纪爪哇报道的记者安替先生。（镜头切换）安替你好，我得知你是20世纪爪哇报特派中国记者，驻扎了达八年之久，而不久前刚从中国完成了采访任务，回到我们爪哇国，首先对你的敬业精神表示佩服。请你向观众说一下中国目前情况好么？

安替：不客气，好的。你们乌鸦台的节目我是常看的。你们新闻做得很及时认真。我这次对中国的采访，是本着一个新新闻人公平和公正的态度的。

我先说一下我离开中国之前在首都所看见的一些景象吧：临离开中国的最后一天，我参加了最大的一次串连，在广场上，有成百万的人集会在一起，他们自发的从全国来到首都。人手一册宝书，他们高呼着领袖的名字，虽然我谈不上对他的感觉，还有些讨厌这种噪声污染。但是他们的热爱发自内心，我又一次感受到了。

主持人：如今中国成为一个世界关注的地方。人民共和国建立十多年来，从大跃进，大放卫星，大搞浮夸风，而其领导人的个人问题更成为世界关注焦点。有人说其残暴压迫人民，实行极权政治。受迫害的人不计其数，其针对知识分子有极度的仇恨。而在当中，因其政策死亡的人数达天文数字。安替先生，你是刚从中国回来的，在没有调查就没有发言权的理论指导下，无疑你是最有发言权的，我想听听你的具体看法。

安替：中国问题如今是一个国际关心问题，很多人描述里面发生的一些情况，比如关于粮食的浮夸，饿死很多人，还有领袖残暴，我从一九五九年进入中国，进行了深入的采访。在几个地方，我亲眼见到了粮食的盛产现场。那些粮食，长势喜人，拥挤一起，这就是我亲眼见到的东西。没有调查就没有发言权，这是我亲临现场的一个最大感受。说个例子吧，一九五八年八月二十七日，我赶到四川犀浦，成都到犀浦的公路上大小汽车排成了长龙，人流如潮，很多人把一块稻田围得水泄不通。那块稻田密密匝匝，小孩可以在上面蹦跳着；一个老头拿着洋铁皮做的话筒站在上面，从各地来的记者也很多，他们都围着照相和报道。

后来，很多地区亩产数字继续攀升，九月十二日《四川日报》头版新闻报道了郫县友爱乡亩产突破八万斤。对于这些数字，我认为是很大水分的，但中国的农业革命，确实是了不起的革命，我是亲眼看到的。

对毛XX这个人，我谈不上喜爱，还有点厌恶他的独裁，但是，当我来到人民当中，我发觉他们神情平和，他们对领袖的热爱是发自内心的。没有人强迫他们。而在公共食堂，很多社员和官员都在这里吃饭，包括我所去到的农村，他们节省了多家分吃带来的更多费用。我问过很多人，家里是不是饿死过人，他们很惊讶地看着我，并且很愤怒说，当然不会，我们国家有保障，都集体吃饭，要是能饿死人的话我们都死光了。这是美帝国对我们的污蔑。

主持人：安替你是住在北京么？你对这个城市的印象是怎样？

安替：是的，我住在北京宾馆，我感受到这个城市的安宁与祥和，我晚上常常去散步。我个人感觉简直是去度假一般。北京市民都很朴实、可爱，我问了很多人，他们对这个国家和他们领导人的印象。他们都说，是毛主席带给他们今天的幸福生活，他创立了伟大的共和国，解救人民于水深火热之中，是不容怀疑和否认的大救星。其中有一个人给我留下了比较深的印象，他说起了领导人的儿子的一些问题，他竟然说好在十多年前的那颗炮弹呀。我继续问他，他就说我说什么啊，我没有说什么啊？然后顾左右言他。总体而言，北京市民是很满足他们的目前状况的。我在北京也可以自由接收我们爪哇国的电台。

主持人：好的安替，谢谢你带回的这些真实信息。在节目最后，我记得你曾经说过的要建立新新闻人形象问题，能否跟电视观众说一下你的大概感受呢。

安替：我是这样认为，新新闻人不但是一种理想，更是一种实践、一种真实的职业。希望所有有志打破新闻腐朽局面的年轻人，都能一起奋斗，用我们的努力把那些陈旧、腐败的东西全部穿破、击溃、推翻。而我们所用的力量仅仅是“无声之声、无力之力”的新闻本质。回说起我们的媒体，我希望建立一个自由的新闻人形象，改变一边倒的对其他国家的不实在报道。我坚守新闻人的中立、真实。努力回归新闻本质，让事件凸现本原。

对中国报道问题，我反对美国的夹叙夹议、全能全知式写作，这种恶劣的文风只是中国传统文人“文以载道”的现代意淫版本，滥用话语权力只能导致媒体公信力的不断下降。那种全知全能式的话语只有上帝才能讲出来，记者把自己的东西混杂在事实里，是一种文字贪污。

我也反对苏联的故事新闻写法。因为苏联从来就不知道什么是新闻和宣传分开。美国媒体的故事化倾向是建立在新闻传统之上的，而苏联的故事写法是建立在宣传传统上的。狼披上了羊皮也会吃人，如果不回归新闻本质，形式再怎么改也骗不过读者雪亮的眼睛。

记者不应当有过多的权力，他不是清官，也不是救星，他只是一个卑微的历史记录者，他根据读者的需要追逐着每一个值得追逐的新闻到底，直至读者兴趣淡化。我赞赏狗仔队记者，因为最出色的普利策记者在本质上就是政治狗仔队。

足球运动是一项古老竞技活动，源远流长。在现代科技发达的今天，这古老的竞赛项目没有衰落，反而越来越显示出它的风采。
可是，现代足球在全球技术分布是极不均匀的，一些西方小国，却拥有众多辉煌明星，屡屡在国际大赛中拔殊。回看我泱泱中华，可谓是足球发源地了。我国古代足球称为“蹴鞠”或“蹋鞠”，“鞠”就是球名。《史记匪涨亓写》、汉代刘向《别录》和唐人颜师曾《汉书 .枚乘传》就已经有了记载。曾担任过国际足联主席的阿维兰热博士以前来中国时曾表示足球起源于中国。
足球运动应该本着对国家和民族的挚爱之情，有奋不顾身的为了集体利牺牲小我的精神，还要有荷尔蒙充沛的体力。我们的足球项目在今天却常常为人嚼舌，冲击了几十年，连亚洲都冲不出去，泱泱中华面目何在？为了激发民族情感，我们趁着新一届世界杯在亚洲举行的大好东风，高举民族精神的伟大旗帜，在已经破天荒地进入了世界杯决赛的基础上，决定争夺世界杯以下人员名单：

足坛元老，曾任足球总部宣传部长。对国家民族有着深挚的热爱，是一个为了足球事业甚至连足坛领袖也敢得罪的人，曾寄上《万言书》说明足坛应该走的方向，不应背叛前伟大领袖曾经创下来的光辉业绩。相信他能加强对队员的思想教育、激发队员的民族情感，带领各位队员捧回世界杯。

【张广天】
1966年生。
突出表现：
85年，与叶亏夫一起组织"太阳同伴"队，开始进军足坛。在互联网上创建了《黑扳报》杂志社和“黑通社”通讯社，为足球事业呐喊，他在球场上动作很多，善于奔走，常有起死回生神效。典型例子是把《延安足球坐谈会议上的讲话》理解为"是中国足球事业的第一次解放，千年来由少数人转为灾难深重的球迷们一次解放。是造就《百年孤独》这类伟大队伍的光辉思想。可惜我们都弄错了。"并说要占领宣传领域，广泛宣传。比如呼吁“我要狠狠地做秀”。他曾在比赛中大声喊叫“不做秀毋宁死！（GIVE ME SHOW OR GIVE ME DEATH）我们是以革命的做秀对待反革命的做秀”而吓蒙了对手，为队友攻入胜利一球创造了有利的条件。
特点：
这队员虽无科学的头脑但有充沛的革命热情，并且不知疲倦，常有狮子吼的表现，是个冲锋陷阵的好料子。
弱点：
和屁股挂了鞭炮的野牛类似。

【方兴东】
1969年出生。1987-1994效力西安交通大学队，取得FOOTBALL硕士学位；1996年3月加盟清华，1999年9月退队创业，发起创建国内业余足球队-----互联网实验室队（Chinalabs.com）。
突出表现：
在新千年前后，其发扬一切美帝国都是纸老虎精神，发起了对世界排名第一的MICROSOFT队的挑战。该队员善于抓住时机，趁MICROSOFT忙于应付自身俱乐部问题时候的空子，发起总攻，并取得一定的成效，其著作《起来---挑战微软霸权》引起了MICROSFT教头BILL GATES的注意。他曾说：“如果说《‘维纳斯计划’福兮祸兮》一文帮助改变了中国足球产业的进程，那么我可以自信地说，《起来---挑战微软霸权》将为中国体育事业的发展提供更有价值的帮助和警示。”有强烈的自信心和自我表扬精神，值得称赞。

特点：
充满激情和煽动力。安排做本队前锋。希望他能趁龙门门前混乱时机，大捣混水，为我队攻入进球。
弱点：
思维混乱、缺乏逻辑。所以不能期望他能组织起比较科学理性的进攻。

【甘阳】
在做好一个足球队员本分工作同时，还担任了香港大学亚洲研究中心、美国芝加哥大学的足球研究员。
突出表现：
甘阳先生站得高，望得远，有大无谓的革命精神。所谓爱之愈深，责之愈切，他一直没有停止过训诫责骂中国的足坛，他的攻击既包括立场、观点，也包括智力水准与道德。他说，绝对不能引进西方强调个人主义的打法，因为自由主义在今日中国基本已成为反对民主的一种变相说法，似乎民主越少，自由就越多；大众参与越低，个人就越有保障；积极自由越小，消极自由就越大。他的说话是针对很多队员中存在的一种突出发挥个人不顾整体的思想。球场特点是善于长射，曾经有过在中场起脚远射纪录（据说比赛当天经过球场上空的某某航班驾驶员曾目睹该球直飞中天。）该队员横冲直撞，肆无忌惮，是颇令敌手头疼人物。并创下了球场犯规次数历史记录，曾经使12支球队的20多名队员受伤下场。而与此同时，他还能辱骂对手，他说过：“我把这种集体信仰称为中国足球界的集体道德败坏症。因为这种信仰只能表明中国足球界几乎已经丧失了最基本的道义感和正义感。这种集体信仰同时还可以称为中国足球界的集体知性低能症。”他反对足球界向西方学习，他骂道：“而更令人难以置信的是，中国人里还有随著西方媒体的旋律翩翩起舞者，作出种种丑态，唱起一种新的凡是歌，歌词大意无非是：凡是西方说的就要照办，凡是西方作的就要紧跟。他们以为所有中国人都应该像他们一样，努力作一个好奴才！” 中国国脚沈昌文甚至外援哈贝马斯都被他骂过。

特点：
横冲直撞，体力充沛。善于总结经验教训，把自己的错误发展到整个队来要大家吸取教训。

缺点：
不老实，故意隐瞒极端言论和掩饰违规行为，很可能又会被罚下场。

【李宪源】
李宪源为了民族的事业，一直忍受凡人不能忍受之屈辱，留在外国。他目的只是为了探听国外（特别西方足球发达国家）足球情报，提供给民族足球参考。
该队员自封新毛主义者，他为前足球领袖辩护，一些人说前足球领袖是和国外斯大林一样的独裁专横。他说毛泽东是为防治权力蜕变而要求群众广泛参予国家足球事务管理，这种思想是伟大的，和斯大林的集权型官僚统治模式划清了界线，有开拓性意义。曾组建“新呐喊”球队和写了篇“干枯风流情”文革模式小说，但被封杀了。
该队员激烈抨击足坛的自由懒散思想，他认为正是自由思想的泛滥，把中国带入了1949年以来最腐败、最寡廉无耻、社会不满最强烈、球迷们最“容易揭竿而起并泪流满面的”社会时期。
该队员是勇敢的呐喊者，虽然他居住在国外，但并不妨碍他为足球民族事业而奋斗的目标。他勇敢地射门，虽然他有高度近视。

　　
【何新】
国家队高薪长期招聘队员，有着长期的作战经验。个人技术学自已故的外国队员黑格尔和尼采先生，其光辉偶像是前中国足坛领袖毛泽东。
突出表现：
该队员一直是民族足球的狂热支持者，数十年来不改其心。并一直上书不断给中国队提出许多宝贵的建议。终于得人赏识，一步步地进入了国家队。足球界有人认为说他是利禄之徒，试图以此作为上爬之阶，用上书作为走入足坛的敲门砖。有人说他是御用队员，他说是啊：“我的工资都是国家给的，可以叫御用啊。受国之托，则勤国之事。但是，如果这种指责是说我一味取悦于领导，那就错了。事实上，我常常是反潮流，反主流的。我对一些足球政策尖锐的剖析和大胆的批评使很多体育界的学者和官员都会感到震惊和害怕。王安石讲过三不足畏：‘天命不足畏，人言不足畏，祖宗之法不足畏’。我也有三不畏：学术上的权威不畏。政治上的成权不畏，社会上的人言不畏。你去读读我的那些研究报告，我很少讲顺耳之言。只是我的批评在立场上对国家队总是建设性的，而不是破坏性的。换句话说，我是要补天的。”
该队员自称是前领队毛泽东的狂热崇拜者。他认为，毛泽东无论在球场还是生活都具有超人魅力，他的表现无论在中国足球历史还是在世界历史上，是空前绝后的，我们应当把他当作足球之神看待。
特点：充分领会到了厚黑学的精神内涵，并为我们发展自己的足球明星偶像呕心沥血，孜孜不倦。为达到目标取得比赛胜利想尽一切办法，是民族队里的中坚力量。他应当能够很好地打好中场，支持前锋队员冲锋陷阵。并善于传球，是进可攻退可守的人才。

【吴士宏】
这是全队唯一一名女队员，也是民族杯比赛诸多国家中唯一一个女的。充分说明了我们民族队伍对女同胞的重视，也反映了我们民族的优越性。她本是一个护士，靠自己对足球的热爱，努力学习足球技术和领悟民族精神，慢慢达到了个人光辉顶峰，是个民族榜样。
突出表现：
她曾经是MICROSOFT联赛杯的中华分部队长，效力于世界排名第一的MICROSOFT队。在世界民族北比赛开展前夕，她为了国家足球事业发展，毅然回归自己国家的队伍，加盟中国TCL队，并入选国家民族队出征民族杯。这个事件曾经闹得满城风雨。有人说，她是由于在效力MICROSOFT中国分队时候，管理不善，和队员之间有不可调和矛盾，所以才以此为借口回到中国队的。该队员充满了民族自豪感和自尊心，纵然在效力外队时候，也时刻为着民族足球事业着想。她反对MICROSOFT在球场上对中国队的毫不留情，她说：“杀外国的鸡给中国的猴看。对中国本地的球队则要重友谊，轻打击，起码要先礼后兵。到人家这里组队比赛，还懂一点人情世故，你还能指望被当成客人敬着？”
在MICROSOFT和国内民族队所在国家爆发矛盾冲突时候，我们可爱的吴同志，毅然为了民族利益而放弃个人的光明前途，回到了祖国怀抱中。并出了本《逆风飞扬》的书，描写自己效力外队的日子。
特点：是中场好料子。能进能退，是一流的传球手。比如把自己内部矛盾传为民族矛盾，加大了威力。
缺点：常会由于视力影响，把对方当做盟友，传错了球。这个毛病很难改。

【江晖】
李宪源曾建议说江晖打前锋，认为他不应躲躲闪闪。其实他不明白这正是打中场的好料子。江晖也骂足球自由分子，他说“这些自由分子如此容不得异见，号称足球学者的人如此深文周纳，这么多名人硕儒习惯於道听途说！”
汪晖担任《读书》队队长，在上次长江杯优秀球员评选中因为他举贤不避亲而获得了好评，当然也有一些闲言碎语。汪晖中场优势是明显的，他善于做声情并茂的道德檄文，并在合适时机会发起对龙门意想不到的进攻。

【崔之元】
崔之元对足球有着过硬的理论知识，也有着高度的政治觉悟。现在为麻省理工政治学系研究足球政治经济学和政治哲学的副教授。所以选举他为后卫，希望他能牢固守卫民族队大门。
崔队员对足球贡献主要是基础研究上的，他引证新进化论，力图说明曾经被证明为不合理的足坛制度安排，在往后新的历史条件下也可能复活，因此“自然选择，适者生存”并非是最终的。他说：“在实验室里通过基因重组技术，造出了长牙齿的鸡。中国足球的的大跃进和农业学大寨模式，虽然不是合乎自然发展的模式，但它最终还是曾被全国推广，我们怎能够简单否定呢？其中含有合理因素，应该继承发扬。我们应把毛泽东的足球文革运动七、八年再来一次制度化为定期的全国性直接普选！”
崔队员为足球民族事业提供了理论支持，并善于应用于实践，相信他能做好后卫的工作。

【李少君】
李少君曾在武汉大学接受足球理论训练，现任《天涯》民族队副队长。
该队员有广阔的视野，同情世界上弱小队伍。他抨击足球现状，在世界上发展的不平衡。他追求平等，反对发展不均衡，所以他时刻不忘对自由思想的批判。他认为自由思想过于强调个人技术发挥，夸大个人作用，从而最终破坏了集体关系以及人类与自然关系的和谐。他甚至认为这种思想会给足球事业带来毁灭性的大灾难。
他说，足球资源是有限的，而现状分配是如此的不均衡。自由思想乱用资源，破坏了足球赖以生存的环境。
他作为后卫应该也是比较合适的人选，他对对方前锋射过来的球一概不理睬，提起大脚就踢出界外，准确率颇高。但不大利于自己队员传接球。

【李陀】
在足坛上新左派与自由主义思想展开争论后，被视为新左派的李陀发出了并不及时的号召，他说“让争论浮出海面”。
1982年前，李陀是球场上活跃队员，而后来，他多数时间从事足球批评工作。这次民族杯把他重新选上，是因为他思路仍然敏捷，在球场上可能会有独特的发挥。再加上他对足球事业的热情从没有减弱，二十多年的足球事业相关工作，他也有着很好的经验，能够冷静处理一些突发问题。
弱点是体力不足，可以考虑在后面让替补队员补上。

【杨帆】
可以说，杨帆是民族队中最清醒的人了。所以他做龙门，是当之无愧的。他即使在争论在激烈时候，也能保持清醒的脑袋，对对方前锋踢来的球能扑出，而自己队员由于“摆乌龙”踢入的球也能扑出，常为人所称赞。杨帆先生认为国家民族利益是至关重要，我们的足球事业不能一味地依赖外国，那样将影响国家安全和民族足球事业发展。他认为我们队伍要时刻保存清醒，必须完成队伍的统一大业。

最后，衷心祝愿我们的民族队伍能够夺取世界杯的胜利。

Moreover, the Senate Intelligence Committee's found that Wilson's findings "did not refute the possibility that Iraq had approached Niger to purchase uranium." Writing separately from the full committee report, committee chairman Senator Pat Roberts wrote that:

"Time and again, Joe Wilson told anyone who would listen that the President had lied to the American people, that the Vice President had lied, and that he had 'debunked' the claim that Iraq was seeking uranium from Africa . . . [N]ot only did he NOT 'debunk' the claim, he actually gave some intelligence analysts even more reason to believe that it may be true." (Emphasis mine.)

Chairman Roberts' claims are supported by the release of the Butler Report in Great Britain. The Butler Report paid special attention to the 16 words in President Bush's 2003 State of the Union, because while the White House eventually backed away from the 16 word claim and said that it should not have found its way in the speech, the British refused to back away from their finding that Saddam Hussein sought quantities of uranium from Africa. As the summary of the Butler Report reveals, the British were right to stick to their guns:

"We conclude that, on the basis of the intelligence assessments at the time, covering both Niger and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the statements on Iraqi attempts to buy uranium from Africa in the government's dossier, and by extension the prime minister in the House of Commons, were well founded. By extension, we conclude also that the statement in President Bush's state of the union address of 2003 that 'the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa' was well founded." (Emphasis mine.)

Lately there have been indications that China is losing out to India in attracting foreign capital. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has reported that foreign direct investment (FDI) for the first five months of 2005 fell year on year for the first time in five years. A number of reasons have been cited for this, including a global shift in investment from manufacturing toward the service sector; structural faults in China's stock market, banks, state-owned companies and legal infrastructure; the Chinese government's attempt to prevent the economy from overheating; and a series of geopolitical and economic frictions between China and some of its major trading partners. In the medium term, China is likely to bounce back with improvements in its legal infrastructure and English-language skills. However, in the longer run, India may outdo China, given India's more sustainable development model, and the geopolitical and security tensions between China and its major trading and investment partners

What isn't controversial is this: Karl Rove didn't "out" Valerie Plame as a CIA agent to intimidate Joe Wilson. He was dismissing Joe Wilson as a low-level has-been hack to whom nobody should pay attention. He was right then, and if he said it today, he'd still be right.

And if Valerie wants to live a quiet spy life, she should stop having her picture taken by society photographers and stop getting stories written about her on the front page of the Times.

Mrs. Owen gave the president a stainless steel bracelet engraved with the names of her husband and another soldier, Cpl. John Santos, both of whom were killed on Oct. 15.

The president slipped the bracelet on his left wrist and wore it throughout his 28-minute prime-time address to the nation, becoming visibly emotional at times.

"We have lost good men and women who left our shores to defend freedom and did not live to make the journey home," he said as his eyes turned glassy. "I've met with families grieving the loss of loved ones who were taken from us too soon."

AHOSKIE, N.C. ? Two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (search) have been charged with animal cruelty after dumping dead dogs and cats in a shopping center garbage bin, police said.

Investigators staked out the bin after discovering that dead animals had been dumped there every Wednesday for the past four weeks, Ahoskie police said in a prepared statement Thursday.

PETA has scheduled a news conference for Friday in Norfolk, Va., where the group is based.

Police found 18 dead animals in the bin and 13 more in a van registered to PETA. The animals were from animal shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties, police said.

Amnesty International, the most influential group monitoring human rights conditions in various parts of the globe, has set off a storm of criticism within its own organization. The reason: In August of this year, AI’s nine-man international executive committee selected a prominent Communist party member in Australia to head its research division.

Named to the post was Prof. Derek Roebuck, dean of law at the University of Tasmania. A Christian for most of his life, but a Communist for “the last seven or eight years,” the 43-year old professor plans to move to AI’s international headquarters in London at the end of the academic year.

When asked why a Communist was chosen for this strategic position within the organization, an AI press spokesman in London suggested to HUMAN EVENTS that Roebuck had the best credentials from “a strong field of applicants.”

What makes this appointment so critical is that AI ? which has been supported by conservatives despite a left-wing bias ? has had a powerful impact on how various pro-Western governments, including the United States, decide to deal with various nations of the globe.

As legend has it the famous Laffer Curve was first drawn by economist Arthur Laffer in 1974 on a cocktail napkin during a small dinner meeting... attended by the late Wall Street Journal editor Robert Bartley and such high-powered policy makers as Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. The Laffer Curve helped launch the Reaganomics Revolution here at home and a frenzy of tax rate cutting around the globe....
The theory is really one of the simplest concepts in economics. Yet its logic continues to elude the class-warfare lobby whose disbelief is unburdened by the multiple real-life examples which validate its conclusions. The idea is that lowering the tax rate on production, work, investment, and risk-taking will spur more of these activities and thereby will often lead to more tax revenue collections for the government rather than less....
Last week the Congressional Budget Office released its latest report on tax revenue collections. The numbers are an eye-popping vindication of the Laffer Curve and the Bush tax cut's real economic value. Federal tax revenues have surged in the first eight months of this fiscal year by $187 billion. This represents a 15.4% rise in federal tax receipts over 2004. Individual and corporate income tax receipts have exploded like a cap let off a geyser, up 30% in the two years since the tax cut. Once again, tax rate cuts have created a virtuous chain reaction of higher economic growth, more jobs, higher corporate profits, and finally more tax receipts.
This Laffer Curve effect has also created a revenue windfall for states and cities. As the economic expansion has plowed forward, and in some regions of the country accelerated, state tax receipts have climbed 7.5% this year already.... One year anniversary: The Man I Admire

一晃六四已过去了十六年，这十六年我走过了很多地方，经历了很多事情，但八九年六四那悲壮惨烈的一幕深深地刻在我的脑海里，让我久久不能忘怀。我愿意作为历史的见证人把我的亲身经历记录下来，献给那些英勇献身于中国民主事业的勇士们，纪念那些在血雨腥风之夜救死扶伤的白衣天使们。

一九八九年，我正在北京一所部队医院的研究生院学习。虽说我们这些研究生作为文职军人不能和北京其他高校的学生们一起罢课，绝食，直接参与到那轰轰烈烈的反腐败，要民主的运动中去，但我们研究生院的一百多位学生的心早已飞到了广场。我们密切地注视着民主运动的进展，真诚的希望政府能和学生对话，达到消除腐败，惩治官倒，开放新闻自由，加速民主和法制建设的目标。

为了支持广场上学生的绝食运动，我们研究生院的学生不顾各级领导的阻拦，自发地组织了一场到广场的游行。记得一路上，我们打出的军队院校的旗帜受到了北京市民和学生们的热烈欢迎，因为我们向他们传递了一个重要的信息，军队并不是铁板一块，军队中也有很多人象我们一样是支持民主改革的。据说我们的游行让总政及总后的领导们大为光火！

戒严令发出及军队进城后，北京市民在各路奋勇堵军车。西边一路就被堵在玉泉路及五棵松一带。记得当时我们医院的大院内也塞满了军车。医院内的医生和护士们苦口婆心的向戒严部队的战士们解释北京当时的情况及学生们的诉求，要求战士们不要受骗上当，不要向学生们开枪。记得一位德高望重的老教授专门穿上那笔挺的将校服，语重心长的对戒严部队的战士们说：“我的军衔比你们高，我的军龄比你们长。我以一个老军人的身份对你们说，我们是一支人民的军队，可千万不能把枪口对准人民呀！”看着戒严部队官兵那困惑的面孔我觉得心里很不是滋味。

六月三日傍晚，北京的天气异常的闷热。晚六时三十分，北京市人民政府和戒严部队指挥部发出《紧急通告》。《紧急通告》要求：＂全体市民要提高警惕，从现在起，请你们不要到街上去，不要到天安门广场去。广大职工要坚守岗位，市民要留在家里，以保证你们的生命安全。＂凭着北京人多年培养出的政治嗅觉，很多人预感着晚上要出事。

吃完晚饭后，我在宿舍里再也呆不住了。脑海里翻来覆去只有一个念头，如果今天部队会强制进城清场，如果今天会有流血冲突，我这个学医的就应当在那最前线救死扶伤。就这样我拿上我的白大褂，骑着车悄悄的遛出了医院。西长安街上，人群壅壅嚷嚷，很多人不理会紧急通告的要求，在街上打听议论戒严部队的最新动向。广场上，民主大学的开幕典礼刚刚结束，看不出什么特殊的迹象。我笑笑对自己说，但愿我是多虑了。九点多钟，我骑车离开了广场，沿着西长安街回医院。

骑到快到民族宫, 路就被堵住了，人们纷纷传说戒严部队已经开枪，在木墀地一带打的很惨，已逼近民族宫了，正说着戒严部队已到了眼前。只见前面由防暴战士开路，他们手拿警棍和盾牌，站成一排向前慢慢的推进。而街上民众的口号是坚决把他们堵住，绝不放他们到广场去。只见很多身手矫健的小伙子们爬上长安街南面的平房，将房上的瓦片揭下来摔碎，当作武器砸向戒严部队。但这种抵抗很快就被枪声和子弹压下去了，只见一排排子弹射向空中，前面有人倒下去了，鲜血染红了大地，人们被子弹压的卧倒在地上。但枪声一停，又会有人大骂着“打倒法西斯”，奋勇地冲上去。就这样，很多人一直尾随戒严部队推进，只要枪一响，就立即卧地。每次枪响后，总有流血、伤亡，而枪一停又有人奋不顾身的冲上去。在西单路口有人把点燃的公交车横在马路中间试图阻挡戒严部队坦克及车队的通过。那尖厉的枪声和火红的鲜血让双方都拚红了眼。真正上演了一场手无寸铁的老百姓用自己的血肉之躯去阻挡枪林弹雨，铁甲战车的人间惨剧。

随着大批伤员的出现，我和几个北医的学生一起利用西单路口的医疗用品商店成立了一个简易救护站。对送来的伤员我们用绷带作简单的止血固定包扎，再由市民们用平板或三轮车送到附近的邮电，复兴和人民医院去。有的人抬进来已经没救了。也有那重伤员让我们无从下手。老实讲，我虽然有急诊室抢救的经验，但从未经过战伤救护的训练，一下子面对这么多形形色色，伤势轻重不一的伤员，真有力不从心的感觉。记得有一个学生左胳膊上的动脉被打穿了，抬进来时几个人压着胳膊，那血还是象喷泉似的向外冒，一般的止血法根本止不住。我们只好从桌子上找到一个墨水瓶，压到出血口处再用力用纱布缠住，但那血还是很快就渗透了纱布。我知道这样耽误下去，仅仅是大量失血就会要了他的性命。赶紧叫人立刻把他送到最近的医院去。那天晚上街上到处跑着飞速救人的平板车。

可直到此时，还有市民问我。“大夫，这伤是被橡皮子弹打的吗”？我对着他们那困惑的眼睛不知该讲什么？死伤的人就在面前，但他们仍然对政府抱着希望，他们仍然不愿相信人民的子弟兵会对手无寸铁的人民开枪。看着我满身满手的鲜血，我只想向那苍天呼唤，天底下怎会有这样的政府？怎会有这样的子弟兵？

经过一段时间的拉锯战，戒严部队的车队终于冲过了西单路口，最后抵达天安门广场形成了对广场上学生的包围。部队过去后，大家都非常担心。如果在长安街上就打的如此惨烈，那么天安门清场将会是一个什么样的结局？我不敢想象下去，只是觉得作为一个白衣战士，绝不能在这最后关头当逃兵。就这样，我决定到广场去。

那天晚上虽说戒严部队在天安门广场的南北布下了包围，在东西面则留下了很多出口。凭着我对北京的了解，很容易我就从人民大会堂后面绕进了广场。此时已过午夜，广场上的高音喇叭在一遍遍播放《紧急通告》。《紧急通告》称：＂首都今晚发生了严重的反革命暴乱。暴徒们猖狂袭击解放军指战员，抢军火，烧军车，设路障，绑架解放军官兵，妄图颠覆中华人民共和国，推翻社会主义制度。人民解放军多日来保持了高度克制，现在必须坚决反击反革命暴乱。首都公民要遵守戒严令规定，并同解放军密切配合，坚决捍卫宪法，保卫伟大的社会主义祖国和首都的安全。凡在天安门广场的公民和学生，应立即离开，以保证戒严部队执行任务。凡不听劝告的，将无法保证其安全，一切后果完全由自己负责。＂这一遍遍播放的《紧急通告》在广场上造成了一种非常紧张压抑的气氛，很多人离开了广场。而在这样的时刻留在广场上的人，心里都很清楚，自己将会面临什么样的结局。

到广场后，我很快就找到了红十字会在广场上的急救中心。因为我身上的白大褂血迹斑斑，很多人围上来打听外面的情况。我告诉他们在西长安街上打的非常惨烈，死伤很多，希望他们做好最坏的准备。当时红十字会正尽量把广场上的医务人员召集在一起，准备在最后的时刻发挥我们的作用，尽可能的救护伤员。

凌晨三点多种，侯德健等人去和戒严部队谈判。谈判结果是：广场上的学生将有组织的自动撤出广场，戒严部队不能开枪，而处于中立地位的红十字会急救队将在这整个过程中不撤离，留在广场上，救护双方的伤员。我们及所有我们救护的伤员都应按国际惯例受到双方的保护。记得当时红十字会急救队的负责人把这一谈判结果告诉我们，让大家自愿选择是跟着学生撤离，还是冒着生命危险留在广场上。因为谁都不能保证一旦局面失控，留下来会面临什么样的结局。

我记得当时有将近百人愿意留下来，这样我们这一百多号人聚集在广场东部历史博物馆前，打起了红十字的会旗，大家尽量把白大褂穿上及红十字袖标戴上，等待着最后一刻的到来。当时广场急救站的帐篷内还有一些从长安街上下来的伤员，他们也将跟着我们走。我们当时的口号是人在伤员在，我们将不惜一切代价保护及救护伤员。

四时整，广场上的灯一下子全熄灭了。这些天一直人声鼎沸的广场突然变得死一般的寂静。恐惧和压抑象那漆黑的夜一样吞噬着每一个人。我想很多人在那一瞬间都想到了死亡。我也平生第一次感到了死的威胁。我的思续飞到了千里之外的家乡，我不敢想象如果我死在广场上，我的父母将怎样承受这样的打击，我的朋友和亲人们将会有什么样的反应。当时最大的懊悔是没能好好地珍惜生活的每一天，浪费了很多美好的光阴。以及自十几岁离家后，一直没能对父母好好尽一份女儿的孝心。我对自己暗暗发誓，如果我能侥幸活下来，我一定要加倍珍惜生活，认真过好每一天。我一定要多回家探亲好好陪陪我的父母。

突然寂静的广场上播出了戒严部队指挥部的＂清场通知＂：＂现在开始清场，同意同学们撤离广场的呼吁。＂随后，广播了北京市人民政府和戒严部队指挥部＂关于迅速恢复天安门广场的正常秩序的通告＂，＂通告＂要求：＂一，凡在广场上的所有人员，听到广播必须立即撤离现场；二，如果有人违抗和拒不执行此通知，仍继续滞留广场，戒严部队有权采取一切手段予以强行处置；三，清场后，天安门广场由戒严部队严格管理；四，希望一切有爱国之心，不愿意国家动乱的广大学生和群众，要积极配合戒严部队执行好清场任务。＂

有人带头唱起了《国际歌》，大家都象那走上刑场的勇士一样大声唱起了《国际歌》。突然，枪声和火光在人民英雄纪念碑的基座上响起。戒严部队的先头部队先用枪将＂高自联＂架设的两个喇叭打坏，接着手持冲锋枪从西边的台阶开始把学生往纪念碑下撵，清场开始了。学生们也做出了＂撤出广场＂的决定，开始逐步有秩序地撤离。

因为我们没有参加撤离，所以有机会综观了天安门广场的整个清场过程。只见广场上的灯一下子全亮了。一字排开的十几辆坦克和装甲车从长安街金水桥方向缓缓向广场驶来。学生面前，突然出现了许许多多端枪的士兵，向着学生一点一点靠近，驱赶他们走。随着几下沉闷的撞击声，位于广场北端的＂民主之神＂像轰然倒地。坦克和装甲车继续向前，广场上的帐篷等物被碾的粉碎，变成了一片平地。广场上的数千人队伍在学生纠察队手拉手的维护下，集体向广场的东南角退去。大多数学生都加入了撤离的队伍，但也有极少数坚持不走的学生。我记得有一个男生爬上帐篷顶，面对成排压过来的坦克挥舞着一面红旗。我们在一边急的大叫让他赶快撤离，他就那样坚持着挥舞着手中的旗帜直到那个帐篷被坦克碾碎。我永远也忘不了那个年轻的身影！

端枪及挥舞着棍棒的士兵加紧了对学生的驱离。有几个不知什么原因落在后面的学生在士兵的夹击下无路可退，突然向我们这边跑来。我们此时已手挽着手形成了一个保护圈。看到那几个学生躲到了我们的保护圈内，一些打红了眼睛的士兵挥舞着手中的大棒向我们扑来。我们大叫着我们是红十字会的，应当受到保护，同时把手挽的更紧，用自己的身体挡在士兵和学生之间。看到我们的红十字会旗和白大褂，那些士兵不情愿地停住了脚步。但坚持说那些躲进我们保护圈的是学生领袖，是闹事的暴徒，让我们交出来。而我们则坚持进了我们保护圈的，就受我们保护。我们绝不会交出任何人。就这样我们面对面的和戒严士兵形成了僵局。我曾和一个年轻的士兵这样面对面的互相怒视了半个多钟头。他已被那天晚上发生的一切冲昏了头，打红了眼，他的眼睛里充满了怒气和杀机。我想只要上级一句话，他手中的大棒会毫不犹豫的向我们挥来。

一个钟头以后，待广场的清场已基本结束后。才有人过来处理我们这批人。他们一开始提出的条件是我们可以走，但要把逃进来的学生和伤员留下来。这是我们万万不会答应的。我们的立场是，要抓就把我们一起抓起来，要放我们将一起走。同时正告他们我们属于红十字会，应当受到国际惯例的保护，希望他们慎重考虑怎样处理我们将会面临的后果。同时我们向他们提出，清场已经结束，我们红十字会应派人到广场各处巡查，看有无需要救护的伤员。

看样子怎样处理我们对他们是一个棘手的难题，几经商讨，他们最后不得不同意让我们集体撤离的要求。但我们提出的巡查广场的要求也被他们坚决地拒绝了。这时天已大亮，只见广场上是一片狼籍，到处是坦克碾过的痕迹。广场上有一个个火堆，不知戒严部队在烧什么。

为了防止撤离过程中他们会来抢伤员，我们手挽着手形成了两道人墙，让抬着伤员的人和学生走在最中间，大家一起慢慢的撤离广场。在我们撤离广场的整个过程中都有持枪的士兵在押解着我们，同时他们尽一切可能阻断我们观察广场的视线。走出广场后，街上的市民都夹道鼓掌欢迎我们。我们中的很多人再也忍不住而失声痛哭。我们先步行到前门西大街北京急救中心，把伤员妥善的做了安排。然后大家一致同意留下签名，待六四平反的那一天一起出庭作证。这么多年来我一直在想，这份宝贵的名单现在何处？

等我离开北京急救中心已是六四早晨八点多钟了。我留在广场上的自行车想必已被坦克碾成了铁片，而北京公共交通全部中断，我意识到我得步行半个北京城回医院了。我的一身血衣帮了我，长安街一路都有好心的骑车人搭我一程。此时很多一夜未眠的北京市民都来到了街上，街上人雍雍嚷嚷，议论纷纷。西长安街惨不忍睹，到处是被坦克压得凸凹不平的路面，冒着浓烟被烧毁的坦克、军车和公交车，横七扭八的人行道栏杆及一滩滩血迹。据老百姓说，这是北京城上百年来损失最惨重的一次。

等我回到医院已快中午，我们医院门前也有很多人，有两个焦急等待的同学一看到我就扑过来把我紧紧抱住，他们都以为我出事了。此时我也忍不住而痛哭失声。原来3日晚《紧急通告》公布后我们研究生队就清点了人数，当时只有三个人不在。而另外两个人也於4日早晨回到了医院，只有我到中午还未回来。他们都觉得我凶多吉少，不知该怎么办？看到我完好无损的回来，同学们都很高兴。同时围着我让我讲我所看到的实况。后来听说，六三晚上我们医院门口也打得很凶，坦克在医院门前还压死了一个航天部的职工。也有很多伤员送到我们医院抢救，而伤口的惨状让很多老教授们义愤填膺，后来联名给中央军委写信抗议！

虽说我们是部队医院，但当时医院的大多数医护人员和北京市民一样对六四镇压感到非常震惊和愤慨。对六四的受害者们表示了极大的同情。我的六四经历让我在医院里享受到了特殊的礼遇。当时我正处在研究生答辩的最后紧张时刻，不管我到复印室复制资料，还是到计算机中心算数据，我都受到了一切开绿灯的礼遇。很多人明确表示他们支持我，我做了他们想做的事。还有人主动找到我，告诉我他在京郊有亲戚，如果需要的话我可以到他们那去躲一躲。这一切都让我非常感动，让我看到了人心所向。

六四后，北京市一片萧条。街上见不到行人，到处是站岗的军人和巡逻的军车。我因答辩的缘故，要到北医和协和医院去送答辨邀请书，所以六月六号又不得不骑车上了长安街。街上几乎见不到人，少有的几个骑车人和我一样一有风吹草动或看到巡逻的军车就跳下车来，就地卧倒。因为实在担心已成惊弓之鸟的士兵会向我们开枪。而疾驰而过的军车上的士兵们也经常会无缘无故的开枪。

据说当时北京市有失去亲人的老百姓成立的复仇敢死队。我们旁边的部队大院里有人被半夜摸了哨。各总部发出了不要穿军服上街的通令。而军科院则忙于对地方送给戒严部队的副食品做防毒检验。军民关系降到了建国以后的最低点。

在我论文答辨结束后的午餐上，几个北医，协和的研究生导师都感叹万分。有个协和的老教授说：“以前我是坚决反对自己的学生一毕业就出国的，现在我对他们说你们还年轻，能出去就走吧，这个政府是没有希望了”。也是从那一刻，我动了出国的念头。不过总的说来，我们医院对当时六四牵扯的人和事处理的非常低调。出乎我意料的是，我不仅没有被处分，毕业分配时还按原计划留在了我们医院。

一晃十六年过去了，那长安街上迎着子弹冲上去的身影，那在清场时对着压上来的坦克挥舞着的红旗，那喷血的伤口还会时时出现在我的眼前，提醒着我不要忘记这中国民主运动史上惨烈的一页。

High Court Sides With Inmates on Religion (a witch and a Satanist)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the constitutionality of a federal law requiring state prisons to accommodate inmate religions.

Justices unanimously sided with Ohio inmates, including a witch and a Satanist, who had claimed they were denied access to religious literature, ceremonial items and time to worship.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said the 2000 law, which was intended to protect the rights of prisoners, is not an unconstitutional government promotion of religion.

"It confers no privileged status on any particular religious sect, and singles out no bona fide faith for disadvantageous treatment," Ginsburg wrote.

The law requires states that receive federal money to accommodate prisoners' religious beliefs unless wardens can show that the accommodation would be disruptive.

Opponents of the law had argued that inmate requests for particular diets, special haircuts or religious symbols could make it harder to manage prisons.

"We do not read (the law) to elevate accommodation of religious observances over an institution's need to maintain order and safety," wrote Ginsburg. "We have no cause to believe that (the law) would not be applied in an appropriately balanced way, without sensitivity to security concerns."

Justices left open the door for a future challenge, on grounds that the law as applied overburdens prisons.

Tuesday's decision overturns a ruling by the Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which had struck down part of the law, called the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, on grounds it violated the separation of church and state.

The Ohio case is Cutter v. Wilkinson, 03-9877.

Larry King aired a pre-taped interview with Vice President Dick Cheney on CNN this evening.

On one segment, Cheney said that during Hamid Karzai's state visit to Washington, the first repurcussions of the false Newsweek "Koran desecration" at Gitmo story were being acted out in various locations in Afghanistan.

Cheney quoted Karzai as having told him and President Bush that in Jalalabad in the northern part of his country, inflamed rioters attacked one of their own Afghan cultural centers and burned it to the ground.

Inside of the cultural center there had been over 400 especially fine copies of the Koran.

Blaring from network and cable TV: ?Democrats forced the Senate to put off a final vote this week on John R. Bolton?s nomination to be U.N. ambassador, the latest setback for the tough-talking nominee President Bush has called "strong medicine for corruption and inefficiency at the United Nations.?
This was done by another filibuster that might delay the vote until June, thus shattering the myth that the two parties had joined together in a bond of trust that would end the obstruction that has kept Bush appointees from getting an up and down vote.
When is Bill Frist, the Senate Majority Leader and his fellow conservatives going to learn that the Democrats are no longer the party represented by Zell Miller? Remember that former President Ronald Reagan started off as not only a Democrat but also as the president of a labor union. He became a Republican because he believed his party had moved to the left, away from his personal and business philosophy. If President Reagan were alive today, he would be shocked to see how much more to the left the Democrat party has gone since he left office. He might even think of it as having become the new Socialist Party.
The Democrats are now street-smart and PR savvy. They know how easy it is to con many Republicans who still believe in one?s word of honor. They know how to create polls that will shape public opinion, and how to make a majority of Congress bow to the rule of the minority.
Not only has the Senate minority been able to limit the federal judge appointees to just three out of seven or more, they were even able to deceive Senator John McCain and his fellow moderate Republicans that they would end their use of the filibuster to delay, thus creating a new era of peace and trust.
The future Supreme Court, under President Bush, will have Congress decide whether it will be a Constitutional or a Legislative Court.
If the latter, our nation will become a secular and socialist nation; if the former, we will return to a country and culture envisioned by our founding fathers.
This will also depend on the makeup of our Congress in 2006 and the will of the American people. The anti-American culture and pro-socialist movement set in motion by Antonio Gramsci, the great Italian Socialist in the late 30s?, is now in full swing in America, having been allowed to slowly grow in power and influence over the past decades. Gramsci?s theory was that this would be the only way to take over America?his vision is now coming to fruition.
Our grandchildren will live in the country that we will leave them. And that country will be shaped by the next formation of the Supreme Court, whether it will be constitutional or legislative.
Do Americans have the courage to demand that their members of Congress vote for Constitutional judges, to put America?s interests above political ambition and to end the obstructionist tactics that are not letting our government solve the many problems that threaten our economy and security?
Do Americans also have the will to vote into Congress in 2006 those members who will put our nation?s culture and heritage above the desires of the secularists and socialists?
Only the near future will decide this. We now say to the American voters -in the words of the tennis buffs --- ?The ball is now in YOUR court!?
